How did you come to be a fan of the team you root for?

I was born.

Luckily my Dad didn't push me towards the team his uncle was property of.

Cuz the Indians haven't won a World Series since 1948.

I liked several teams when I was a kid since we didn't have a MLB team here at the time. I was kind of fond of the Pirates back then for some reason.

Then the M's came into being and I've been doing this :frusty: pretty much ever since with a brief blip of excitement in the mid/late 90's.

Apparently I'm really not smart enough to ever dump the bitch that's always disappointing and never ever delivers in bed. :tsk:

Born/raised south side of Chicago. That usually means White Sox (but not always... Cubs are more popular overall and some get sucked into that). My dad was a big White Sox fan. So, I don't know anything else.

I was 4-5 years old reading the sports page. Just infatuated with looking at the standings, batting averages... etc...

I root for all the DC local teams except the Red Sox. I grew up in Washington when there was no baseball so I jumped on the Red Sox when I was a kid as I was born in Boston.

Back in the 1950’s, when the Yankees had a dynasty, and the kids used to gather on an empty lot in the neighborhood to pick teams and play some ball, all the talk was of Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford and the Yanks. It was Lancaster County Pennsylvania, East Lampeter Township. Times of more simplicity. The Phillies got some recognition also, but I was determined to collect all the Yankees baseball cards and I got them all that summer except for Mickey Mantle, which I guess was rare in the packs of cards that came with a piece of gum inside. One kid had that card and I bought it from him to complete my set. I went to a few Phillies games but the Yanks were still my favorite. It was much further to the Bronx.

Where between NYC and DC?

Syracuse > Silver Spring MD > Albany NY (very briefly) > Valley Cottage NY (near Nyack) > Adelphi MD. Then there was some back & forth between MI & MD between my parents after they split up. Dad moved around a lot. That was no fun. I envy people who grew up in one place.
