Started casually rooting for them in 1998/99-ish from watching Pedro, started really following in 2002.

My dad is a diehard White Sox fan since the late 50s. He tried to convert me and I still occasionally see pictures myself in White Sox gear when I was 6-7, but it just didn't take for obvious reasons.

Frank Viola, Kirby Puckett and Kent Hrbek were my favorite players from the local team, I even cried when we traded Viola.

I always tried to like both my home team and my dad's team and would be torn when the teams played each other.

But then, when I was 8 years old, my dad the White Sox fan let me stay up and watch Jack Morris pitch the greatest game 7 in World Series history. I've never looked back since.

From the South, Braves and Cubs were the only games we got on TV every night...I played on the Braves in little league at 5....so I chose them.

I’ve got two teams I like, the Reds and Blue Jays. Cincinnati because of Eric Davis(my all time favorite player). Toronto because of the outfielders of Barfield, Bell and Moseby. Growing up in Idaho, no local teams to cheer for.

Lloyd Moseby was my first "favourite" player (and Barfield was my sister's). Such a nice and happy guy.

Simple thread, how did you start rooting for your team? I know we have some guys who root for teams that are far from where they live, others who have rooted for different teams in the past.

Me, I was born and raised 45 minutes outside of Philly in Delaware. Rooting for the Phillies was something that came automatically. Plus, I'm not a cocksucker.

You guys?

1st MLB city I lived in was my 1st stint in ATL in the early 80s...the Braves were terrible, I mean 5,000 to 6,000 (maybe) on a week night terrible.

My job was on the southside of town, I lived on the north side so I had to pass by the old Fulton county stadium...a few times I got off early and decided to spend $7 to take in a major league baseball game. You could literally walk down to the 3rd base line and see Ted Turner and Jane Fonda in their seats.

That summer I may have gone to 15-20 games (cheap entertainment) and even though I'm not the MLB fan that I used to be, the Braves are still the team.

The Packers are Wisconsin culture; no explanation needed there.

My parents knew nothing about hockey, so I was never subjected to it as a young'un. When I was old enough to get a paper route, one of the first things I did was buy a TV for my room so I could watch sports more and play my own video games. Back then, my only sources for hockey were ESPN and video games. I used both to better familiarize myself with the rules, players and teams.

One player that had stood out to me early was Dino Ciccareli. He played for the Capitals at the time I started paying attention. He latched on with the Wings in '92 as my interest and knowledge in hockey was growing, so I started paying more attention to the Wings. I quickly discovered that Yzerman and Fedorov were spectacular must-watch players. I adopted the Red Wings as my team in '92 and never looked back.

Grew up in a state with no professional teams, favorite players are KG and Barry Sanders. Sometimes I wish those guys got drafted by different teams.

Born in the Bronx to Brooklyn Dodger fan parents who gave up on baseball when their team moved west. Still mortified to this day they raised a rabid Yankee fan.
