How did so many D1 teams miss on Doug McDermott?

I mean kid is one of the 5 best players in the country and its not like he didnt get seen a TON with being on the same high school team as the number 1 HS recruit in the country ( Harrison Barnes). You would think he would have gotten a better offer than a mid major.

He was fairly highly rated (like, not top 100 or anything, but high enough that he should have gotten offers from mid-level BCS conference teams on down). I think it was generally assumed that he would play for his dad (when his dad was at Iowa State) so nobody put in the effort to recruit him. Certainly, he was a good high school player. I remember him lighting up Jereme Richmond and Waukegan on ESPN(2?).

When his dad coached at ISU, he was committed to UNI. And Doug is NOT top 5, sorry. When Creighton plays more than 4 decent teams a year, than we can talk. He isn't bad by any means, but not even top 25.

OOHHH. I dont know man. Kid is a stud. He totally ripped up all the good teams they played this year 25 points and 12 boards vs San Diego State, 26 and 10 vs St Joes, 25 and 11 vs Wichita State, 27, 5 and 5 vs Northwestern. Hes a sure fire first team all American. i get your point about the competition but i think that actually makes it tougher on him because he gets so much attention.

Yeah, i was probably being disengenuous to say not top 25. He is top 25, but not top 5 imo. I see your point though, a lot of teams if not all of them would probably love to have him right now. ISU and Iowa included.
