Yeah, Bonds and Clemens have to go in eventually. Yeah steroids ? surround them but I think it's time to move on.

He voted for Griffey last year.
2014: Morris, Glavine, Maddux, Thomas
2013: Morris
2010: Alomar, Larkin, Morris
2009: Henderson, Morris, Rice

Can't find the other years.
Ah, thanks for correcting me. Still pretty aloof voting from this guy.

I read his article from 2013 regarding his Morris vote. Here's an excerpt:

"If Morris is not elected this time, I will vote for him next year in his final year of eligibility and then be done.

Barring a change in my thinking, which I don’t expect, I believe the time has come to relinquish my right as a 10-year (actually 50-year) member of the Baseball Writers Association of America to vote in the Hall of Fame election."

Well I think I speak for most when I say that I wish he hadn't changed his thinking and relinquished his vote.

Chass's argument for Morris is laughable by the way, as expected. Just a bunch of quotes from former teammates. Also that Morris was so important to three championship teams. Doesn't mention his performance in the 1992 playoffs funny enough.

But he started on opening day! And game 1 of BOTH postseason series. I mean, just being picked for those honours tells us all that we need to know, there's no need to look at the value of the actual performances.

Barry Zito has a CY. He started game 1 of the 2012 World Series. He started multiple opening days.

Is he a HOFer?

Mine seems to be working I think, but yours may need to be calibrated

Not sure what the logic is for voting either Bonds/Clemens and not the other...
The two are elite, no-question HOFers before you enter the PED issue. I can't imagine anyone putting forth a serious argument against that stance.

While I disagree with keeping PED players out (basically), I understand the argument.

But what could the difference between these two possibly be to split your vote? Some kind of homerism is the only thing I can imagine.

Jon Heyman is the only voter (public) that has voted for one and not the other. He voted Bonds, not Clemens. His reasoning was that he didn't know when Clemens started using and therefore doesn't know if he was a HOFer prior to steroids. While Bonds, on the other hand, he thinks the story makes sense that he started using after being envious of McGwire and Sosa and thinks he was a HOFer before this time.

He also voted for Posada...

HOF over the next few years might do a good job of correcting itself, I'm holding out hope. When the 2019 ballot comes around, I think Bagwell, Vlad, Pudge, Hoffman, and Raines will all have been elected. As well as first timers Thome and Chipper (who I think both get in first ballot in 2018). My prediction would be:

2019: Edgar and Rivera (Martinez gets in his last ballot, Rivera gets in easily on his first, Halladay just misses out)
2020: Halladay and Jeter
2021/2022: I think there is just one slam dunk first ballot HOFer here, but the voters won't put him in (A-Rod). So this is the best chance to look at egregious holdovers like Bonds, Clemens, Schilling, Manny, and Mussina (if he's not in already, his numbers are climbing). I don't think Manny is getting in, but I wouldn't be surprised if 3 of the other 4 did.

Bonds could hit already. Jury is out on, to me anyway, if Clemens could pitch clean..

Is Gaylord Perry in the HOF? Maybe I should reevaluate?

At the time it's suspected Clemens started roided ('97), he had:

-3 Cy Youngs (and 2 additional top 3 finishes), 1 MVP
-Around 200 wins
-4 ERA titles (and 2 additional runner up finishes)
-3.06 ERA, 144 ERA+
-3 seasons of 20+ wins, and 6 seasons of 18+ wins
-3x strikeout leader, and 4 additional times as #2 in K's, with 6 seasons of 230+ K's

He could've been below average for the rest of his career and still would've made the HOF with what he accomplished up to that point.
