Game Thread: Hokie Hoops vs. Georgia Tech 2pm EST on ESPN2

Playing Georgia Tech in basketball brings back memories of my favorite game from senior year.

I even won a front row ticket to the game at a Chalk Talk. Too bad I forgot it was black out and wore orange instead.

I hate that announcers kept saying JJ wants to run an up tempo offense but we never pressed or anything even when we had depth. I call BS

Even now, I don't understand why we don't push in transition despite depth issues. Its not like we're a passable half court team. Get the easy buckets when you get a chance to push it!

I get the zone. We don't have any depth so we have to run it to prevent foul trouble. It would be nice to go man to man from time to time just to change it up.

Yep, agreed. There is absolutely zero reason that our PG shouldn't be probing during transition and semi-transition. It's a simple move that forces the opposing team to at least pay attention. The PG can get an easy lay up, hit a trailer for a 3, hit another guy running alongside for an easy two, etc. There's so many positive outcomes. The worst case scenario is the PG has to pull out and go into a normal halfcourt set. It's also a staple of every team ever that plays a true up tempo style. And I haven't seen it at all in the 2 years JJ has been head coach which tells me when he talks about his vision, its BS. He has no idea what he wants to do.

JVZ had a hell of a game, if we can keep them in Blacksburg, i think we're going to have some special players next year between JVZ, Wilson, Thompson and Emelogu...if we have some decent coaching, i think we can be a pretty good team next year
