Yea, i dont care about positional offense... your offense numbers are either good enough or they are not...

But i ask you, if Rolen was not an elite defensive 3B would you even be spitting his name out here?? my point is no matter how hard you hide it, you are considering him because of his defense... Not his offense... and it is not a combination...

its more like how amusement parks let kids onto rides, you must be this tall to get on this ride...

I just question where the limit is... the when is elite defense not enough to let you in...

By this stupid logic, there would only be several middle infielder's in the HOF and hundreds of outfielders/1st basemen in there.

It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Awesomeness. It's a museum. If 99.9% of people had to agree on what constitutes a Hall of Famer, there'd be ZERO people in the HOF.

It SHOULD be the Hall of Awesomeness. If you want a MUSEUM....that's fine too. Any player could make it to a museum. Roger Maris for 61 homers. Midget Goedell. Pete Gray. The Hall of Fame? Keep the "Good" out and the "Great" in. Those players I see bozos putting on their ballots (just to put down 10 names?) are not GREAT. Maybe it is time for a separate HOF to weed out the near and not great????

No, but it should tell you something that certain positions are much stronger offensively than others.

I do think the HOF should have some kind of room or wing to display "inner-circle" Hall of Famers.

The reason those positions are stronger offensively is because they are catching all the players who aren't good enough to play the harder positions but can still hit well enough to stay in the major leagues. When a raw prospect is drafted, unless they are a pitcher or a catcher they start out as a shortstop. If they can't handle that they move to 2nd or 3rd. From there if they still don't have the defense the 3rd basemen usually goes to a corner outfield spot or 1st base, the 2nd baseman sometimes goes to center field sometimes 1st or a corner outfield spot. But the guys who can play well defensively at the tougher positions And hit well are the players that help teams win.

How would you determine that inner circle though? Cy Young gets in, but Sandy Koufax doesn't because he didn't play long enough?

Less then 1% of all MLB players is watered down? The MLB HOF is right where it needs to be. Especially when you compare it to the other sport HOF that put 7 or 8 players in each year.

Like he said, anybody that 99.9% people of agree should be in. IOW, nobody, since only one player has ever even been within one percentage point of that.

75% of the voters is a perfectly reasonable threshold to make that determination.

Bonds, Clemens, Vlad, Chipper, Edgar, Mussina, ManRam, Santana, Shef, Vizquel.

I think me and you are in the minority on Vizquel. Probably because we don't need no advanced stats.

Being the best shortstop of your generation is deserving of induction.

Some things should always be that simple.

Barry Larkin was 1st ballot.

Hard to convince me Omar and others aren't worthy.

And everyone knows that Griffey was clearly the greatest player to ever pick up a bat.
