Yea, looking back I wouldn't have included CY he is the wins king by a good margin... it wasn't ONLY because he has the most games started...

yes but he passed Ruth 2 hrs into that 1974 season. He basically fell off a cliff after breaking the record but those last 3 compiling seasons were just adding to the lead over Ruth.
But you're right he was definitely not the best home run hitter of all-time, even before Bonds. He was just such a consistently great all around player and was lucky enough to get a shot in the big leagues at age 20 and stay healthy for most of his career.

Yeah, I guess it's just semantics. Call him whatever you want, he was one of the best players that ever lived. He's just known more for the home runs he compiled because no one ever thought someone would hit more than Ruth. But I'm sure if you looked at all his games played in a row there was probably some 150 or 160 game stretch where he hit 55 home runs or something. They just weren't all in the same season

I would have Rickey on my all time team!!! That way my team would never have to play against him!!!

I don’t think it is a huge stretch to call him one of the top 5 OFers of all time...

    (Grouped, not ordered)

    Ruth
    Williams
    Mays
    Bonds

    ———-———-

    Mantle
    Henderson
    Robinson
    Cobb

Who do you sit out ...RF - Ruth, CF - Bonds LF - Williams ... Mays late inning Defensive replacement for Williams, move Bonds to LF and Mays to CF ... Cobb and Henderson if you want to play another style game or pinch hitter and pinch runners. Mantle and Robinson to the minors.

I think here, are we talking great hitters who played the outfield? If it's OF, Henderson and Bonds are far from elite with the glove. I don't even know if Ruth was a great fielder.

I am talking entire package. Are claiming that there is a possible all time team that wouldn’t have Bonds AT LEAST on the roster?

    Come on, now...

The guy won 8 Gold Gloves and rates as +175 runs above average per Total Zone runs. That looks pretty elite to me.

Not to mention he's easily a top 5 hitter ever, if not the greatest. Hell, even if Bonds was below average defensively, he'd still probably be one of my starting outfielders.

Is it necessary for me to claim anything? I just asked a question.

Inner-circle HOF to be sure. But do you think he is better than any of those 8?

I think the top 4 are in their own class. Not sure a strong argument can be made for changing that. The next 4 are a bit more flexible, though. Maybe Aaron is close enough to add to that group, but I am not sure he would be able to knock anyone out of it.

100% confident in these 3 getting elected: Thome, Vlad, Chipper
99% confident in this guy getting elected: Hoffman

Still think Edgar is a long shot even being over 80% right now. I think he's a lock for next year. But, for me personally, next year might be the first year that I wouldn't vote for more than 10 players after Chipper, Thome, and Vlad are gone.

My 2019 ballot if those 4 get elected:

    Bonds
    Clemens
    Schilling
    Mussina
    Edgar
    Rivera
    Halladay
    Jones
    Walker
    Manny

    On the fence for Helton.

Assuming Thome, Vlad, Chipper, Hoffman and Edgar get in this is my 2019 ballot:

    Clemens
    Bonds
    Mussina
    Schilling
    Ramirez
    Walker
    Rivera
    Halladay
    Mcgriff
    A.Jones
