Since they can't seem to come close to filling their stadium (20,000 to 30,000 empty seats for every home game), I hear the USC Trojans are always looking for new fans.

this is pretty much where I am right now...

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about football and can't wait to see the games, but I have no expectations of this team.

Maybe Texas A&M fans can help me get more comfortable on how to handle this?
Yes. See Michigan from like 2009-2014.

Here is LSU's schedule in 1908 when they "won" the NC, which BTW even the university doesn't claim. They beat the following:

1. Young Men's Gymnastics Club-New Orleans 41-0
2. Jackson Barracks-New Orleans 81-5
3. Texas A & M 26-0
4. Southwestern Presbyterian 55-0
5. Auburn 10-2
6. Mississippi A & M 55-0
7. Baylor 89-0
8. Haskell 32-0
9. Louisiana Tech 22-0
10. Arkansas 36-4

One of the reasons that LSU itself does not claim the title is that there was a charge of professionalism against LSU for using at least 3 professional players.

Another was that Harvard and Penn which both finished undefeated, they played each other to a tie, played a much more difficult schedule.

Nothing but rose colored glasses. Looking at our weak schedule, undefeated until at least the Michigan game in November. Championship game vs tOSU or PennSt. Easy Big 6 bowl or if lucky, Natty 4

Professionalism, where I come from, means doing your job ethically and respecting those you work with. Well done 1908 LSU.

You need to drink the offseason kool-aid that a natty is coming, then after 1 loss you point out how you aren't out of it yet, then after the 2nd and 3rd losses you start focusing on recruiting (and accuse everybody else of paying players) and trolling the other fanbases. Rinse and repeat. :suds:

Yeah, why is that? They're like the Miami of the left coast.

Looks like a typical SEC schedule to me. ;)

I'm pretty much in the same spot as the OP right now. Pretty apathetic about my team. It's hard to get excited about a bad HC hire, no QB (we're having 2 guys split the job to start the season), and a weaker defense. 3-9 is hard to get excited with anticipation for.
