Has there ever been a cover version that completely changed your opinion of a song?

I heard this one on the way to work this morning and thought of this thread. Actually there are several Joe Cocker songs that qualify.

Word. I think all he did was sing others' songs.

She Came In Through The Bathroom Window and Feelin' Alright are probably my favorites of his.

You seem angry. Miserable, even.

One of my favorite albums back in the 70's was "Alone Together" by Dave Mason. Great album with a number of terrific songs on it... including this one;

Fast forward 30 years... and Gov't Mule did a version of it that completely redefined it for me... and reminded that this is one hell of a good song.

CCR covering a Motown classic....FTW.

Of the 3 best known versions of this song (Marvin & Gladys), this is the one I like the least .. and I love CCR. But they're really not an extended jam sort of band and that's what they do on this. I don't hate it, it just doesn't do anything for me. :noidea: It still get a lot of airplay > 40 years after the fact so I guess I don't have much company with this opinion.
