Gruden doesn't want Kirk at all. He'd be willing to go forward with him but imo he'd much rather find a way to get Dalton out of Cincy or draft a QB that he can mold. I think the interceptions and Kirk being conservative is weighing on him.

Gruden is a former arena league QB and probably want a QB that will take more chances and commit to being here.

While Gruden has been long boasting KC's prowess and has been his biggest supporter since being here, Gruden obviously saw, heard or has formed his own opinion on the situation now that the season has ended. I say this because his thoughts on KC's season who were inspiring to say the least. Gruden's real frustration with KC's camp is that Gruden himself went to the court and demanded KC start over the anointed one. Now KC's camp obviously is not showing the same love to Gruden and he see's this and now understands there is NO loyalty in today's NFL, not even by Mr. Nice Guy Cousins.
Don't be surprised to see the Red Rifle in DC.

I know that it's $34M, but I believe that Kirk is locked into a LTD or nothing from this team. I also don't believe that Gruden would say such a thing, if he didn't already have some inclination/indication that Kirk felt the same way.

So the coach saying, he is getting tired of the one year deals is coach speak for... I want a different QB. Interesting take.

Let me make myself a little clearer.

Do I think Jay would be okay with Kirk coming back? Yes.

Do I think he is losing sleep over it? No.

Is he tired of going into every off-season wondering who his QB is gonna be? Yes.

Does Jay sit up and say, "I remember when I used to go to the playoffs every year with Dalton." Yes

Is Kirk saying, "Jay, you're good, but you ain't Kyle or Sean." Yes

Is Kirk saying, "Oh, Jay Gruden is throwing subliminal shade (good at times) on my name? If it wasn't for me he would have been fired by now. Yes

Is Jay kinda butthurt that he put his job on the line for Kirk, only to have Kirk try and jump on the first thing smoking outta town? Yes

Is Kirk saying to himself that Jay started me to save his job, not mine? Yes

There is a mutual respect there but at the end of the day they both think they can do better.

I think Jay is at the point where he is like well EF you too. Fine, leave!

And I think until its settled one way or another, folks are going to read into it what they would like to see on both sides.

I think Gruden is taking lessons from Bruce on being politically correct in his responses.

IN the end, this will drag out until March and while they should be concentrating on fixing the defense, running game, WR position and Special teams... they will spend another off season trying to figure out the QB position.

In the end, Jay Gruden is coaching for his job in 2018 no matter who the QB is.

If Jay is coaching for his job next year, he better care who is QB is. KC gives him the best chance next year. Without a doubt. The odds are that a rookie or a journeyman vet isn't going to perform as well as KC, who has had 4 years in the same system and is one of the most accurate passers in the league. Does he have flaws? Yes. Name me one QB that we can get in here next year that doesn't.

For those of you that think Jay will get Dalton in here, think again. No way Allen/Snyder settle for Dalton. He is just a poorer man's version of KC.

Preaching to the Choir bro.

My take is, if Gruden is smart, he wants Kirk on a long term deal. But also because he is smart, he realizes he cant break out and say... we have to resign Cousins period.

That's my take also. What I would like to know is behind the scenes is Gruden lobbying hard to get KC signed.

I think with Lewis staying Dalton stays, but I do think Jay thinks Dalton could do here what Kirk has done. His tone just sounded off when he was talking on the coaches show. Maybe negotiations have begun and he's trying to help Dan and Bruce get him signed.

I don't claim to have inside info. Just a fan reading the tea leaves.

Jay Gruden is simply saying he wants to prepare for the future of this team. A year at a time for your QB is not preparation. He wants the games to stop.

As for Dalton being as good...why don’t Dalton’s stats say that because he had AJ Green (far better than any WR KC has ever thrown to), solid supporting receivers, and a far greater running game than we have had?

I personally don't think Andy is as good as Cousins, but I'd be willing to bet that Jay looks at the three seasons he was there....9, 10, and 11 win seasons with 3 straight playoff appearances and thinks he could have success with Andy or other Qbs here.

We all know the dude thinks he can win with Colt.
