Marichal absolutely belongs on the short list. But I don't think he cracks the top 3.

IMHO, I think you need to be the "face of the franchise" to be considered. During much of Stretches tenure, Mays was still the face. Bonds was clearly the face during his tenure. Clark was the face for his. This is actually a bit of a knock against Posey. Is he the face, or is Bum? In '10, was it him or Timmeh? In 20 years, when we look back at this era, who will we think of first?

Timmy.

So many great Giants in history, no way does Posey make the top 3.

Mays
Bonds
McCovey
Ott
Marichel
Mathewson
etc

Willie Mays is the second greatest player in MLB history IMO. Second only to Babe Ruth.

Ott and Mathewson are NY Giants.

And when all is said, I think Posey is more influential to the org than Stretch. Stretch was a stud, but he was always the #2 on his own teams and he was never able to deliver the goods.

Again, this isn't a deiscussion about who was the best player to ever play for the SF Giants. It is a discussion about the greatest SF Giant. A fine difference, but still a difference.

What's unfortunate about Mays being in San Francisco is that Candlestick was a terrible park for him to play in. It probably cost him 100 homers.

Of course, the same argument applies to Bonds and ATT.
