With Bonds getting back in the fold today, I got to thinking...

Who is the greatest SF Giant ever?

I figure it is a 3-player race...

Mays
Bonds
Posey

On the surface, Posey doesn't appear to belong on this list, but why not? Like the other two, he is/was the best in the game at his position during his career and he brings the solo accolades. The difference is that he was the leader on three championship teams. Neither of the other 2 can say that.

Who gets the nod? Is there someone else who deserves consideration? Bum? Timmeh? Thrill? Stretch?

Did you just really compare two of the best players to play the game, nearly universal top 5 picks on the "Greatest MLB player ever" list, to Buster "Hold My Purse As I Round Third" Posey?

Let the record reflect that calsnowskier just put Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, and Will Clark in the same sentence.

Let the record show that Omar failed remedial high school English.

First off, it is a thread for discussion amongst Giants fans, who can think about the topic a spoiler it applies to the Giants specifically, and not MLB as a whole.

Second, why do they play the game? To win championships. Posey has won 3. Mays and Bonds combined have 0.

So by calsnowskier logic, Derek Jeter > Honus Wagner. Got it.

Tim Lincecum, he of the 9 year career, 3.75 ERA, 3.45 FIP, and 28.4 WAR, is right around, or maybe even better than, Barry Bonds.

You know nothing about the Giants, so you are emphasizing your ignorance here.

And you are attacking a point I never made.

For their contribution to the Yankees?

Yes.

So you understand my point.

Thank you.
Ok, since you want to move the goalposts. Bernie Williams is a better outfielder than Reggie Jackson? C'mon man. It's great (for cocksmokers) that Posey won you guys three championships. But he didn't do it alone. He had a LOT of help. And his career just isn't Bonds' or Mays', even if he wins three more championships for you guys.

I know nothing about the Giants? Really? And you explicitly asked if Tim Lincecum deserved consideration in the "Greatest Giant Ever" debate that isn't a debate, unless you really hate Barry Bonds and steroids and want to go with Mays.

Dude, GTFO.

I never moved any goalposts. This post is in the GIANTS forum, not the MLB general. I am not asking who is more influential for the MLB as a whole.

It's not about influence. It's about who's the "Greatest SF Giant" ever. And the greatest SF Giant ever is not Buster Posey. I don't have to be a child molester to understand how child molesting works.

Eli Whiteside?

:behindsofa:

Oh, wait! I know! I know!

What's his name, what's his name? Nick Somethingorother. GOAT!
Seeing as the Giants are officially called the San Francisco Lowerys, I thought it was unfair to bring him into this discussion...

It is an insult to even suggest that Nick Lowery could be lowered to something as base as greatest baseball player ever. And I thought you knew better Stokes.
