CSN New England's Tom Curran gets the sense the Patriots may have to eventually force Tom Brady's hand and make him retire or trade him.

Brady's deal runs through 2019 at cheap salaries of $1 million in 2017 and $14 million in 2018-19. While Brady continues to be the best player in the sport, the Patriots continue to sit on Jimmy Garoppolo, refusing to trade him as it seems they're preparing for him to eventually replace Brady. But as Curran puts it, "the quarterback position in New England will have to be pried from [Brady's] cold, dead hand." Brady has said he has zero plans to retire anytime soon, while his father said a couple years back that Brady would play until he's 70. That would put the ball in the Patriots' court. If it happens, it will surely be messy. Coach Bill Belichick may be the only one with the stones to do it

Brady is going to win two more Super Bowls at least while still in Foxboro.

He's going to have a huge year this season. He got screwed out of a full season last year. All those quick little weapons to throw to. My oh my.

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. Patriots have never shown backing down when a veteran's time is up. But you are talking the face of the franchise for over a decade and a hand full of Super Bowls...

The hard part is going to be making sure his time is up.

I doubt they'd have any problems if they really felt it was.

Hey I hear you, you Pat fans are going to be split after this thing plays out........1/2 will say time to move on while the other half say's let him play..........

If they do release him after 19' San Francisco might be calling him....

They might, but if they don't see actual decline in his performance, I suspect they will resign him again, may be a short contract, say year to year, but I don't doubt Brady would accept it to keep playing in NE

Really really hard to pinpoint the exact moment when a player's skills are declining. (and sometimes when they start to go, they can go quickly)

So there's a 99% chance that they are going to either give him up too early or hang on to him too long. Just a simple matter of doing the math and then sticking with your decision.

It's not as hard as you think. I think you're confusing it with coaches often refusing to see the obvious.

Complete Myth. I lived in KC when Montana played there, I did not see droves of 49er fans magically turn into Chiefs fans after the move. Didn't happen then, and it won't happen when/if Brady goes to another team.

I'm not saying fans will cheer for another team, what I said is (Pat's) fans will be split if it's time for him to move on or not.

I don't see why a Patriot fan would be split on Brady? He's won more Super Bowls than anyone else. So what if he hangs on an extra year or two? Big wup.
If it takes him 2 years of sucking before he hangs it up, its not like he's cheated the fans out of anything. I think the fans owe him to decide on his own terms.

He's done after this yr. Mother sick, wife wants him around more. I think BB/Kraft know this. I really don't think TB wants to dog and pony show that will follow if he announced in camp this was his last yr.

I would love to see a SNL skit with a old aging Brady playing with a cane on the football field. Then again, who watches that show nowadays?

Brady is rich, famous and married to a supermodel - we don't owe him anything.
He'll play until he sucks and then he'll be benched or cut. Respectfully of course.....
