This is embarrassing to the rest of the playing field that someone has so much dominance on one particular surface.

Fed needs to get to 19 now. A nudge by Nadal!

On the mens side anyway. Chris Everet would have won 3 more (1 more than buttpicker has now) had she not foregone the French in the mid 70s to play WTT. She was undefeated on clay all 3 of those years.

But you must admit, Rafa is in a league of his own when it comes to clay court. I remember on the old espn forum, I had a long argument with anti-Rafa posters who use the same term 'buttpicker." Funny. "Could 've" "should have" doesn't cut it when it comes to comparison of players. Chris herself will readily admit, Rafa considering the competition is in a league of his own.

You did not say that when Federer was dominating. Unbelievable. Come on. You can't be that partisan.

I am glad you used "needs." Rafa is breathing on his neck, very hard and the only satisfactory response from some of you rabid Federer fans is to claim rather lamely that Rafa is roided up his ass. BTW, I am a Federer fan and I still believe he is the best.

Yes of course he is. Cant really comment on the rest. I came from CBS. Was never on ESPN.

Hahahahahaaa. A comeback indeed. Congratulations, Rafa, the greatest clay court player that ever lived.

A case can be made that Borg was better than Nadal on clay. If Nadal had to play with a wood racquet and gut strings, he couldn't make the shots he does. If he went head to head against a prime Borg using a wood racquet, I'd bet on Borg.

Not a lot of big movers in the men rankings top 35 or so. Kevin Anderson up 19 spots though. Now #37

Women's FO champ up 35 spots. From 47 to 12. 2016 champ down 10 spots to #15.

Using your logic can a case be made to dilute the achievements of Federer since he did not play wih wood racquet?

I'd bet on Borg myself. Heck I would bet on Fed if both he and Nadal were using 70 Square inch wooden frames

Not at all. Nadal's game depends on extreme, extreme topspin. He wouldn't be able to hit a lot of his best shots behind the baseline and place them where he does with a small wood racquet with gut strings. Fed's game would work in any era. Not to say that Nadal wouldn't be an all time great in any era, but his game is based on what he can do with a modern racquet & strings.

Are you kidding me? In his days who had more heavy top spin than Borg? These players are gifted and to try and denigrate Rafa as a result of equipment is lame.

So the guy with the most extreme topspin today is the best on clay. Kind of like when Borg had the most topspin, he was the best on clay. I think if the buttpicker had played Borg back in the days of wooden racquets, Borg would win. If they played today and they used modern racquets, I think the buttpicker would win. That's not denigrating anyone.

Noone is close to accomplishing what Laver has so I dont see why people get so worked up anyway. Dude won 8 majors in 2 years (and 11 in total) and was not allowed to play for half a decade in between. He probably would have won 10 more. He had 1 ear where he won 20+ titles (1 every other week) which is crazy. Not to mention he was number 1 in the world for 10 straight years.

No one else is even close.

It's not feasible to argue against Laver as the GOAT. You an argue for someone else, but it's ridiculous to argue against Laver.

Rafa should absolutely get on his knees and thank the people behind the modern technology of current crazy topspin friendly strings and shock absorbing but lighter frames. Why?? He is able to harness his athleticism and shotmaking with these large headsize racquets and create enough safe shots on clay to amass his lopsided major haul. 10 slams on clay which is twice that of all other slams combined!

I have no idea how Stan beats Rafa on Sunday

I actually thoughts Stan played the points well and could dictate.

The problem was that he only had 1 break point the entire match.

Can't win when there's so few chances to break.

He needed to find ways to get into longer Rafa service games.

He looked more comfortable than in 2013, even though Wawrinka won the same amount of games.

IMO.

Halep had her best chance to win one and ran out of gas. Cant see her getting closer than this. Womens tennis is so bad. There must have been a Service break every other game.

I liked the match.

I like matches with breaks of serve because usually that means swings in leads within a set.
