Re-signed LaRoche to a 2 year deal

I guess Morse will be traded. :frown:

Good they got LaRoche but tough to give up Morse.

I'm sure they can get some good return on him. Should be interesting to see what happens. :pop2:

Yeah there is significant interest in Morse since he's a fairly affordable cleanup hitter. The Nats would prefer to receive young starting pitching prospects or a major league reliever in return, preferably a lefty.

Nats lineup looks something like this, talk about a sweet lefty/righty pattern!

1. Span(L)
2. Werth(R)
3. Harper(L)
4. Zimmerman(R)
5. LaRoche(L)
6. Desmond(R)
7. Espinosa(S)
8. Suzuki/Ramos(R)

Nats trade Morse to Seattle in a 3-team deal. Get back AJ Cole and a couple more prospects.

Apparently you guys signed Chris Young to a minor league deal. Very solid move. The guy is never healthy, but when he is he's as solid as they come, has unbelievable stuff. If you use him as 6th, 7th starter or maybe bring him out of the bullpen he could be a very nice pickup. Low risk, high reward move.

I miss Chris Young on the Padres! I hope he can keep it going in '13.

No doubt Nasty, you can never have enough starting pitching depth in your organization. I remember him starting 3 games against the Nats last year, and recording 3 quality starts in those games.

He really closed the year out strong too: "In his final eight starts, he punched up a 3.09 ERA with 38 strikeouts and 16 walks in 46 2/3 innings. His average fastball rose in his 20 starts, starting with 83.9 miles per hour in early June and finishing at 85.6 in his final game of the year"

Nationals add Chris Young, bolster starting pitching depth

Great move signing him. We can't expect the luck we had last year with not 1 pitcher (involuntarily) missing a start due to injury. Need some experienced guys in case someone goes down for an extended period of time.

Can't wait for this season to start!

Padres fans love Scott Hairston and I'd guess just about every other of the 27 teams he'd played for would say the same. He can play admirably anywhere on the field and is well-respected and liked by his teammates. That said, I know nothing of Ivan Pineyro.

If he can improve the Nationals bench, I have no problems with it. I know nothing of Pineyro either.

I love it. Big upgrade over Moore who is not getting it done this year offensively or defensively. Hairston can crush lefties, Nats are about to face 3 lefties in Lannan, Hamels and Lee... i dont think it's a coincidence the Nats got Hairston now.

I loved Scottie with the Padres and as a resident of the left-field seats at Petco, let him know that many times. I also loved his plate discipline. He's been around and in a crucial at-bat, you'll feel comfortable with him not to go after an 0-2 slider in the dirt.
