Players coming off of injury are very hard to put a value on. Long and Murphy will both be paid less than they would have got and may have to take a one year deal to get their value back.

Most of the time its prove it deals. I say resign both Long & Murphy because I believe both have upside and both are team first players. Long may be the cheaper option at LG right now "if" we want to sign say, Richardson at WR or Wilkerson at DE.
I couldn't imagine a DL of Wilkerson, Vea & Allen with Brown & Foster at ILB. Nice!

perhaps or we dump brown and draft an ilb who has more versatility. or we draft a chark as well and 2 of those signings wont be needed

Sure we could, But IM still curious to see the real Smith numbers after the extension. Because I find it hard to believe he signed or will sign with no new money in year one. And I dont think there is any kind of provision to push signing bonus into later years of the deal. Now they could have set it up to be back loaded and actually lower his cap figure this year as well. But that would also mean he will be more expensive later on should he not work out and regress to his mean.

Actually, you wouldn’t. There is no chance he would sign that deal.

You also misunderstand. That is a first year cap hit of ten million. Wilkerson will get thirteen million per season.

Prove it deal? The man is an interior lineman who has had two season with more than ten sacks without any help assistance from the edges.

NO contract offers can become official until 4:00PM Tuesday. Anyone who has been signed over the last week was released first. Wilkerson could sign a deal today because he was CUT. But guys whos contract expires, cant officially be signed until after 4:00 PM EST Tuesday.
