I don't understand all the Taco Charlton bashing after the game. I think Blaine Gabbert did a great job of getting the ball out quick. I saw some serious upside in Taco in that game. I saw 97 getting up the field. He should have gotten credit for a QB pressure but he didn't. He beat a double team one time but Gabbert got the ball out quickly. He was pretty solid against the run. Sure, I would have liked him to play better, but he was nowhere near the worst Cowboy pass rusher that night. I guess most Cowboy fans expected Charlton to have a preseason like Dak and Zeke last year or something. Every rookie isn't gonna be great out the gate. Some need time to develop(Dak and Zeke still have some developing to do as well). I think Taco has some serious upside as long as he doesn't become another one of our DEs that gets suspended to stunt his growth.
I am sorry, I was disappointed in taco. I saw nothing positive about his play in that game. However, it is only preseason not worried about it. I think he will play much better as preseason goes on.

watched the first half of the game and thought Kellen Moore played great. The one stupid int in the red zone was of course the big play and offset all the good but he was really good other than that. He made some great throws and a couple of the incompletes were just him throwing the ball away when nothing was there. Very impressive game one for him IMO. Alfred Morris was fantastic. He just looked so much faster than McFadden. He ran hard and he changed the game when he came in. He isn't a great receiver or STs, but he can run the ball. Butler and Gathers also were real good. The downside is of course the pass D. Starters, reserves, whomever is in there it always seems the same problem. Of course who cares about the first preseason game, but I only bring it up because our starting safeties were in the game when Gabbert carved up the middle of the field.

Wow, I thought I might be the only one who thought Moore was sharp. I saw more garbage cans by his name on Twitter, it was ridiculous.

Good points. Tapper last year was absolutely horrendous in the preseason. One game he played just about the whole game and did pretty much nothing and was manhandled by guys that were cut, yet many expect him to be so good this year - not saying I don't, just pointing out the difference. My personal concern with Taco (and maybe some others here as well) has always been that I feel like we forced the pick on draft day and I'm just not sure what to expect from him and that has nothing to do with his preseason play. There were a couple of guys that went right before us that the team also seemed to like a lot better and they admitted to liking the CB better and not going BPA. But for me if Taco gives us some contribution in a rotation this year then I'll be happy with the pick. It's not about where you are week 1 (or the preseason) it's where you are for your career. Not every player comes out like Zeke and Dak as you stated above and I think Taco will be more an all around type DE than a pass rush specialist. So even if he doesn't get a bunch of sacks this year I think he can help this team and with the suspensions he may be thrown to the wolves a little even if he isn't quite ready for it. I am excited to see how he handles it and bet if he gets a sack next week he will be seen in a different light.

That's the key. Nothing wrong with pointing out a bad game or bad plays as long as kept in perspective

Obviously you cannot throw a pick there and that was a huge "no-no". But 90% of what I saw was very positive and I was very happy with his play. I guess the flip side is when facing backups you should look good as Gabbert sure did against us

I expect almost nothing from Taco this year. If he can stay healthy and get reps, that's all I am hoping for. You don't often see an edge D guy come in and light it up his first year. 3rd year is when I would expect him to dominate. If he can be active every game and at the end of the year still be playing on 1st and 2nd down then I'll be thrilled. Don't care about stats at all.

Why would you expect almost nothing out of a first round pick??? I expect more then nothing. You do often see edge d guys who are going to be good flash that their first year. Taco should be held to the same standard. Dallas did not draft him just to be a rotation guy in the first round.

Don't forget that our DC generally likes to rotate our DL regardless of who they are and once the suspensions are over we should have a bunch of guys playing. So a "rotation guy" on Dallas is not an insult. I find it hard to believe he would be anything else year one. He just isn't going to play 80 plus % of the plays. Did you know only one of our DL played over 60% of the snaps last year and he played 62%?

Edge defenders Damontre Moore (78.4 overall grade) & Taco Charlton (75.3 overall grade)

The Cowboys need to get more production off the edge, and they got a solid night from starters Moore and Charlton. Charlton did not record a tackle or pressure, but did an excellent job of using his length to set the edge and control blockers against the run (80.7 run-defense grade). Moore posted a quarterback hurry and a run stop, while also racking up four assists on just 13 total run plays (80.6 run defense grade).

I should have clarified. I want taco to show something this year (flashes of what he will add to this team(sacks, pressure). I dont want him to be a situational player coming of the bench once and while for his carreer. I dont think expecting to see something out of your 1st round pick in his first year is too much to ask.

agree. We didn't draft him to not produce. My thinking is more that even though not ideal, it's not the end of the world if it takes him a year to "get it". But of course I'd rather him be a top player for us year one

I agree with you. If it takes a year to get it, I would be ok with that. I just hope to see some QB pressure, sacks this year once and a while.

Heck, the way this team is going I'll settle for him getting through his first two years without getting suspended for 4 games like our other DL:suds:

With this off season, I'm betting Jerry does a complete 180 next season, the way he did by not drafting Moss after the Irvin years.

I think so as well. He has to change the drafting tactics. No more problem or often injured players from college.

I think we have changed our tactics and I think McClay and Garrett are a big part of that and our drafts have been really good from a talent perspective, but it does seem our 2nd round has been the "risk taking" round. Last 5 years:
2012 Traded pick away
2013 Escobar - head scratcher at time and didn't work out
2014 Lawrence - has been suspended
2015 Gregory - Suspended
2016 Smith - major injury

I guess it's a risk versus reward thing and sometimes you come up empty when you draft that way. If you go back to draft day and you look at Gregory and Smith you have two players with absolutely huge risks, but also where the payoff could be that of a top 10 pick. Gregory seems like a whiff. Smith hopefully will pay off.

I doubt they avoid the injured player, but legal and character issues will be for a few years.

I absolutely hated the Escobar pick, was so so on the Lawrence pick, actually liked the Gregory pick.

OBJ estimate here is 50/50. Not sure I buy that. Figured for sure he'd play but he hasn't practiced so we'll see.

Odell Beckham - WR - Giants
Profootballtalk reports Odell Beckham (ankle) is "50-50" for Sunday night's opener against the Cowboys.

Beckham has yet to practice this week, while reports have pegged his desire to suit up against the Cowboys as more aspirational than realistic. Regardless of Beckham's Friday practice status, he'll likely be slapped with a "questionable" tag. Fantasy owners can only hope the situation is clear by Sunday morning.

I am sorry but i am one of the few who does not give a rats ass about fantasy. I dont get rooting for other teams players. I could never do that. Any way, OBJ is a drama queen. He will play.
