Someone said he had been working hard building up his strength. That was a few days ago. Could be the answer. Also, read last night the FO was not giving up on him in CF 2018.

Didn't catch the comments, but glad it's not just me seeing what I'm seeing.....Seriously.....Like I said, he's not ever going to be Gomez......But he seems to have put in the time/effort to get better at one of his shortcomings......Now, if we could just get our 2nd baseman to do same....ha ha ha

Not no, but hell no......Unless......If he were to tear his hamstring and know he'll miss most of next year, then maybe......He seems to accept the fact he's a DH for now, nothing more, at least for 2017.

Ya know I wouldn't exactly hate the Gallo as a starter @ 3rd, with Adrian as a "spot starter" for 2018. Think I've seen enough out of Joey to feel decent about this.....He may not ever be AB. Don't really expect him to be......But he's shown an awful lot of athletic ability this season, and 3rd is his natural position.

I know no one is here, or at least paying attention, but, DeShields arm appears to be considerably better than it was 2 years ago. He's made 2 solid throws this inning......Hey, he ain't Gomez, got it.....But 2 years ago he couldn't make a decent throw from left, much less center.

Banny mentioned in the article that I linked to yesterday that his arm has improved and that he has worked really hard on his defense.

I think he comes back and that they offer him an extension in ST. Whether or not they should do that is a whole other issue. I think the only thing that would cause him to ask to be traded is if JD obviously went into rebuild mode and I don't think they will do that.

That is pretty much the way I see it too.

One thing we haven't talked about concerning Otani is the fact that he wants to play somewhere(probably DH) where he can hit when he isn't pitching. That will make for a very crowded DH, !B, COF foursome in our lineup with Mazara, Choo, Calhoun, Joey, Guzman, and Otani. Although Calhoun and Guzman aren't shoe-ins as has been previously pointed out they both have shown about all they can be expected to show in AAA. Based on AAA success they could very well be expected to make the club with good springs. In actuality though, if we are going to trade anyone that decision has to be made much sooner than ST so waiting until ST to make a decision on them might not be possible.

I get it, but he lost quite a bit of time to injury this year, and he'll be 39 next year.
