Isn't that usually the case though? Remember Derek Fisher who was fired by Phil Jackson who made the Knicks worse(as if that was possible) then they were? I mean seriously how often has a person with zero expense become a successful head coach on his first team and without so much as one season under a better coach? Jason Kidd is the only one and what has he done besides get paid?

Steve Kerr and Erik Spoelstra say hi.

Also Fizdale has a ton of experience as an assistant coach. If you want to go that route and name guys who have had success in their first stops after being assistant coaches, look no further than Poppovich, who's first NBA head coaching job was with the Spurs.

The more I look at this situation, it's Wallace trying to cover his own ass and keep himself employed. He's totally screwed that entire roster over.

I was recently watching the Open Court with the owners and Mark Cuban said that the biggest lesson he learned and most expensive lesson he learned was the GM's job on the team is to try to keep themselves employed for as long as possible.

This is another situation of a GM trying to find a scapegoat for their own failings.
Did you see the part where Jeanie Buss said they had to change the rules so Owners wouldn't sign themselves to a 10 day contract so he can sit on the bench because of Cuban?

I almost died....lol

Lol yeah that was gold. Cuban totally would sign himself to a 10 day contract just so he could sit on the bench back then. Cuban is the best though. He's, IMO, probably one of, if not, the most knowledgeable owners out there from a strategy stand point on understanding the game of basketball. You can tell he's put a lot of thought into the actual game and learned from his time as owner. Ballmer was awesome too.

Also Lacob was such an ass on that show. You can tell he was sitting way up high on his horse there. When someone said "if Kawhi didn't get hurt" and Lacob looked like he wanted to punch whoever said it. LOL.

Oh, that was the funniest shit ever.

I thought Lacob was gonna start punching folks in the tits and balls....lmao

You forgot Pat Riley (announcers booth to coach). Turn in your Lakers fan card immediately.

I think Pat was Westhead's assistant for a year or so before taking over.

Do some research before you make ridiculous comments? Zero experience? He got the job the correct way. He wasn't just handed a job without any experience as Fisher and Kidd were.

You do know he was an assistant in the NBA from 2003-2016 right? This also doesn't include his college days where he was an assistant since 1998

I think Fiz will be fine. He gets to go to bed next to this every night.

He was for part of a season after Jack McKinney was seriously injured in a bicycling accident. Then, 6 games into the next season, Westhead was fired and Riley took over.

It is the NBA. Coaches are constantly recycled.

this is the least newsworthy thing. An NBA coach lasts about 1-3 years nowadays if they dont win it all.
The good thing is that they are constantly recycled and dont stay unemployed long.

This guy was at best slightly better than average. He was no better than the previous coaches who all got fired. It was a loaded veteran team that had years and years of playoff experience. This wasnt some group of youngsters finally getting a taste of the post-season.

There are all sorts of examples of young inexperienced coaches doing better, and still getting fired.
Dallas put Avery Johnson out to pasture after 4 50-win seasons and a Finals appearance.

Heck, the Cavs can fire David Blatt after 1.5 years (53-29) and (30-11). Lebron James did not say a damn word, but needs to create needless outrage over Fizdale.

You do realize Memphis was not expected to make the playoffs this year right?

...and was handed injury after injury last Season.

But, still continued to win.

Guess it's only impressive when the Spurs do it.

You are what your record says you are....

The NBA doesnt mess around. It has never messed around. Coaches are completely recycled constantly.
The NBA does not fire players. It fires coaches. It does it all the time, and with better coaches than Fizdale.

Coaches are viewed as the least important aspect of organizations for some reason.
Is it fair? No
Does it make sense? No
Should they change it? Yes

But, 25 out of 30 NBA coaches have 4 or less years experience today.

Lebron didn't say a damn thing, because he was the reason Blatt was fired.

Interesting that some of the most controversial NBA coach firings ended up with the team winning a Championship that year. (Riley had two of them.)

When did this happen with Riley?

He resigned from the Lakers (despite having won coach of the year) because he felt that his style had run its course in LA.

He resigned from the Knicks who didn't win a title.

In Miami, he resigned as coach to commit to being the full time GM.

He returned to the bench in a controversial firing of Van Gundy and led the Heat to a title.

He stepped down as coach after the following season, remained as team President and hired Spoelstra.

When he took over for Westhead and when SVG decided he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Aah, I stand corrected. I forgot about the Westhead firing. That was pretty controversial at the time.
