Irrebarren is a cute human interest story, but I've read that fantasy before.. middle aged players who have been career minor league players (like Ivan DeJesus, Jr.), AREN'T just suddenly figuring out how to be impact players. It's just a temporary fluke. They have fundamental failings that kept younger players always passing them up, every year. It's a trend that will continue unless the team's good ole boy network is stronger than the will to win, OR the minor league system is really strong at producing impact players from the farm. I think that's nuff said about what's going on in the Reds org.

Word is, the Reds were shutting down Amir Garrett to control his innings.
It's not like he would have gotten more than 10 anyway. Strange decisions sometimes.

Looks like the Reds are bringing up all their pitching prospects. Probably time to shut Straily and Finnegan and they need the help.

Sounds like they are shutting down Disco ... or are cutting way back.
Seems as though Bailey is done for the year.
They will get as many innings from Sampson as they can.
Straily has a dead arm.
Finnegan would be OK but he generally won't go past 5 innings anyhow with his pitch counts.

It is refreshing to know that at least 3 pitchers in the Reds system are better than Cingrani.

Cingrani tried to throw a 4 run lead away but failed. I was really impressed with Straily last night. I hope he isn't a one year wonder if you know what I mean.
The Brewers have a lot of mashers, but their defense is lacking.

TC has big league stuff. A dozen teams would take him. If I am the Reds, I trade him.
Yesterday.

Cingrani hasn't pitched well his last 3 times out. But overall he has pitched better than the two previous seasons.

I think he's arbitration eligible this year. If I were the Reds I'd be weary of giving him JJ Hoover type arbitration money with his late season struggles and declining K rate.

I'm weary of the Reds over paying mediocre relievers, I guess the Reds should be leary.

It's the bottom of the 3rd and it feels like Adleman has already thrown 100 pitches. The Scooter Gennett homer was the 233 allowed this season. The MLB record is 241. Iglesias allowed the first on Opening Day, we'll have to wait and see who serves up 242.

Adleman, in his defense, is not expected to be much more than filler for this rotation.
So he's been better than expected. If he doesn't walk 3 guys, he might have a chance.
But this team looks like they never scout a pitcher until they actually face him. Guerra isn't that good.
The real positive news heading forward is that hopefully Ohlendorf will not be with the team next year.
Simon is done.
Is Jumbo done?
Hoover is history.
Who else? Who's on first?
Cody Reed needed to pitch in this series.

The Reds for some unknown reason like Jumbo, so they will probably hold on to him.

Jumby is cheap which is really a good idea for relievers.
He doesn't really project as a bad pitcher but he just isn't all that good with a team that has so much inexperience.

Ohlendorf is a waste, should have never signed him. He was bad the 1st half of the season. He went from bad to worse to terrible the 2nd half.

What we've seen from the overall pitching staff is what we should expect when 60% of the pitchers used this season have been DFA or released at some point in their careers. (18 of 30, not counting Tyler Holt)

Some players get DFA by being caught up in the numbers game, but most of the guys we're seeing earned their DFA throught prolonged poor performance and teams giving up on them.

Dan Straily is the exception to the rule, Ross Ohlendorf is the rule.

Getting Straily the way the Reds got him makes me go 'hmmmmm' to the system.
the metrics just do not let this guy out on waivers. And getting him when they did just smells a little odd.
Somebody owed somebody a favor and the Reds were clearly in need of any warm body, let alone a guy who is really likely to be the staff ace next year. It's easy to accuse teams of collusion, harder to prove.
I don't think the Reds broke any real rules but it just was like a Christmas gift after Straily was traded to a team, and released ... what, the next day? And bingo, nobody else wanted him except the only team in the NL with its entire rotation on the DL.

geez... is there no mercy?
Can we release Ohlendorf, Jumbo, and Sampson and find some stiffs from the 20th century?

So ready for the Bryan Price era to be over. I'll actually help the guy pack his shit, once he gets the pink slip. We need a skipper that knows how to manage a pitching staff and for fuck's sake, not let Jokertty make anymore personnel decisions.

Continue to build this team around Billy, Peraza, Disco, and Raisel. Yes, Raisel should stay right where he is, chewing up important innings from the pen.

This team has given up on the season. Not that it makes a difference, (well it might to the fans that buy tickets in Sept)

The three guys they trotted out there on Tuesday were about what's in the middle of this pitching pool.
They have already allowed more HR than any team in history and their current overall WAR is BELOW replacement level, which has never happened in history.
