Looks like a good line up ... I like 4 wild card teams to play a one game playoff ( to get it down to 2) and then the two top teams get a bye series ... Schedule 162 games, but throw in a few doubleheaders to end the season a little earlier. Expand the rosters to 27 players.

Too much down time for the top two teams.

Seems if they went to four divisions of four teams per league, they should drop the wild cards and just go with division winners. I like that, but I love the drama of the current wild card hunt and subsequent play-in games.

Why not abolish the lineup entirely? If I am at an Angels game, I just want to see Trout hit. Allow him to hit every AB. If he gets on base, put in a designated runner and Trout picks up the bat again.

Now THAT would be a cool game.

And who wants to watch a noodle armed statue play 3B just because he can hit? Let’s put defensive specialists at every position.

Now that is really an example of 9 on 9!

This point that you've so snarkily made is the only one that I consider valid for the no-DH side of the argument. Well done.

I used to be against DH, too. Now I'm for it, after watching Adam Wainwright get injured for the year on an AB.

Contract the Padres and D-rays

Both contribute absolutely nothing to the game

I can understand the Padres, but the Rays?

Over the last ten years, the Rays have won 74 more games than the Royals and have twice as many playoff berths.

I'm all for the expansion...and obviously some sort of realignment would be required but I think getting rid of the AL & NL is a terrible idea. I'd much rather keep the AL & NL and just have either 4 divisions of 4 teams or 2 divisions of 8 teams for each league. I think it'd work out pretty well to add Portland to the AL and Montreal to the NL. It could look like this:

AL WEST
Portland, Seattle, Oakland, LA Angels
AL SOUTH
Houston, Texas, Tampa Bay, Kansas City
AL NORTH
Detroit, ChiSox, Minnesota, Cleveland
AL EAST
NY Yankees, Boston, Baltimore, Toronto

NL WEST
San Diego, San Francisco, Arizona, LA Dodgers
NL SOUTH
Miami, Atlanta, Washington, Cincinnati
NL NORTH
Colorado, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Chicago Cubs
NL EAST
NY Mets, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Montreal

yet nobody goes to their games, their stadium is a dump and nobody gives a fuck about baseball in Florida.

Who has more WS appearances in the last 10 years?

Easy to say when your the Cleveland Indians ... LOL

My concern when writing this was too much down time as well. I wonder how much 10 days off (from real play) would hurt a team. The ability to rest a bit and set your rotation is invaluable. You could play some mock games to keep everyone fresh. 4 wild card teams seemed too much as well.

I'm sure your unwillingness to accept the DH has been the major motivating factor for MLB to not implement it in the NL.
Just curious, but why would the NL want the DH?

The Royals by one.

I could understand if you were suggesting to relocate them because of the reasons you listed, but you're talking about contracting them, and from my perspective, the Rays, measured by performance, are a better franchise than the Royals.

LOL, Okay.

I wasn't trying to make a joke, I was being serious. Hidden in Cal's snarky post was the notion of "slippery slope." If we DH for the pitcher today, is the catcher next? It's something I've considered while weighing the DH/No DH debate.

I agree, I don't like the DH either. I'm an old timer and we were raised that every player played the field and hit. I don't like the idea of a player that sits on his ass for 9 innings and just hits 3/4 times a game.

Eric Davis basically ended his career diving for a ball while playing defense. Having designated defenders would prevent a potential HOFer from going down.

It goes further than that. The DH makes the 24th and 25th roster spots much less critical (granted, it makes the 10th roster spot MORE critical). In the NL, the 4th and 5th OF play quite often as does the 2nd until infielder.

This is why I could begrudgingly be brought around with my proposed compromise of linking the DH to the current pitcher. It would make roster depth more important.

Thanks NL.
I never said I didn't like the DH. It seems that people who oppose it forget that every other pro baseballl league in the world uses the DH and the sport is thriving. This is just another continued stupid argument that some couch potatoes have been told to believe. It would be different if pitchers actually knew how to bunt.

I also get tired of seeing young pitchers curling up in the corner in the 4th inning and having a whole long row of 34-year old has beens being used as "relievers.".
