Yeah he wasn't much in Pittsburgh at the beginning of his career. Really overrated at the time because the Pirates sucked.Don't know if I can think of a better example of a one year wonder.
Had one great season with the White Sox where he nearly won the Cy Young and nothing but mediocrity or below before or after that one season.

A lotta guys have that one really good year. I remember Ian Kennedy had one great year for San Diego while the rest of his career was crap.
They ended up with Kukla, Fran & Ollie.....Kennedy, Hughes and Chamberlain didn't work out as planned there.

Yeah. Kennedy was actually never seen as that big a prospect and they really mismanaged Joba. Hughes could just never stay healthy but he was key out of the pen down the stretch in 2009 (Something like 50 innings 70 K's when they moved him to relief). Joba was excellent in the pen but they keep moving him between starting and relieving and totally screwed him up. Should have left well enough alone in the pen.
Kennedy was pretty highly regarded-he was their #1 pick in 2006. He was seen as a fast mover who wouldn't need much MiLB seasoning before being ready for the bigs. He was pitching for the Yankees by September of 2007, so that was borne out. Didn't have the stuff of Hughes or Joba, but knew how to pitch more than either of them.
If I remember he was a late first round or "sandwich" pick. Yeah, he was the most mature of the 3 but was seen as the one with the least upside. He did have that one year in S.D. that was better than anything the other 2 put out there/ COuldn't follow it up though
