The three most populous states in the Union did not fare well this week.

Florida P5 teams all lost:

- Florida lost 17-36 to Georgia
- Florida State lost 10-59 to Clemson
- Miami (Fla.) lost 14-27 to Boston College

Texas P5 teams all lost:

- Baylor lost 14-58 to West Virginia
- TCU lost 26-27 to Kansas
- Texas lost 35-38 to Oklahoma State
- Texas A&M lost 13-28 to Mississippi State
- Texas Tech lost 31-40 to Iowa State

California nearly followed suit...:

- Stanford lost 38-41 to Washington State
- UCLA lost 10-41 to Utah
- USC lost 35-38 to Arizona State

...but was saved by California (Berkeley) winning 12-10 over Washington.
