He was great when on the field when I was watching. The Browns need more DB's as far as I can tell on D.

I saw a Mock that has them grabbing the Alabama CB with the #4 pick

And the same mock has them taking Barkley #1

Which is funny, cause you see what position they have them passing on

I would have to assume Alex Smith is their starter if they did that in real life.

Barkley IMO is the biggest cant miss in this draft, and will have a Kareem Hunt/Zeke/Bell type impact

The question becomes, as great an impact as a RB has, does it really equate to greater success for the team in TODAYS NFL?

Cause there isnt much evidence yet of any of these great ones carrying their teams to really big things

Ok, here's the deal with RB when drafting one that high, it's not that far off from signing a FA back as far as the cap goes nowadays. It's just bad drafting to go Barkley over a talent that can move the chains in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. The Browns running game really isn't all that bad so it's kind of a luxury pick on an 0-16 team.

If Cleveland can trade for Smith and get Barkley I think they go from 0-16 to a legit pkayoff contender . D is solid , WRs are decent , OL is ok. I think those 2 moves can get them to 9ish wins

Kinda agree, its the type of pick that fans are gonna be cheering whenever he gets drafted....But seems the less popular move is the smarter one for any team picking really high

That said, id be surprised if he gets past the Colts at #3, assuming they think Luck is good and they arent eyeing a QB

Smith would definitely make them a playoff contender assuming they use their cap and draft assets. Their defense was 16th in DVOA. Getting that offense up to above average (very doable when not starting a nonce at QB with that core) then things can get interesting. AFC North is very weak and Ben could retire within a year or two. In the AFC, that'll get you into the WC conversation.

John Ross needs to be a Zero

They can only rate for the plays they participated in. Ross averaged 12 ypc, but fumbled once in 3 "touches/targets" (1 run and 2 targets). You can get some skewed rankings as a result of small sample size.

Similarly, Engram has a poor rating as he couldn't block (a frequent requirement for TEs) and he was 2nd in the league in drops (11, most by a TE, second only to Dez).

Ahhhh, I see...Cause Engram was really much better than Howard, but that rating doesnt reflect that

Howard is the much better blocker with a better catch percentage.

Engram just isn't a TE; he should be listed as a slot receiver.

Definitely a slot Receiver

Good thing is he didnt catch us by surprise, it was very clear from his days at Ole Miss that we were getting a glorified slot Receiver

Definitely, but being rostered as a tight end will get him compared to tight ends. That catch rate needs to improve as well, but he's only a rookie.

Wow the two tight ends with the lowest grade, yeesh. I guess it's probably tough to learn that position if you're being asked to block against the monster DEs/LBers in the NFL, but still. Lot of analysts had Howard going top 10.

Said this on the Bears board already, but I think the top 3 QB's in this class will all be pretty good within a year or two.

I was so pissed the Giants didnt trade up 5 spots to grab Howard

Thats such a dysfunct offense, I think Howard could just be in the wrong spot
