here is the caption on Whiteside who they ranked 41-- between Otto Porter Jr., and Al horford

  • Heat | C | @youngwhiteside

  • Last year's rank: 32

  • 2017-18 projected RPM: 1.88
Stats & Info: Whiteside remains somewhat of an enigma. Though he once again finished in the top five of voting for Defensive Player of the Year, the Heat were still better defensively with him off the floor. On/off court splits can be noisy, but this is now three straight seasons in which Miami's defense has posted a better defensive rating with it's anchor on the bench rather than on the floor-

Jae Crowder at 38

and Myles Turner at 37.....I think Turner is going to be a LaMarcus Aldridge with defense someday.....not SOON- but 2-3 years down the line

Stats & Info: There's massive potential for a star turn from Turner, who is entering his third season and will be Indiana's focal point following the trade of Paul George. Though he might not scream "superstar" upon first glance, Turner is one of just five players in history to average 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks per game by the age of 20. The others: Anthony Davis, Kevin Garnett, Chris Webber and Shaquille O'Neal.

ESPN rankings are a joke. SI rankings seem more credible. Once I saw Melo in the 60's then I knew it was a joke. Whiteside was 34 in SI rankings. Seems more accurate

I just thought it was funny that the metrics they cited say exactly what i have been saying.

Whitesides blocks might be pretty- but his actual contributions are NOTHING CLOSE to elite- and it doesnt surprise me the metrics say the Heat D is better when he is riding the pine.

Well if you think Whiteside is still chasing blocks then you don't watch much basketball. He does not block shots at the frequency he did in his first two years when he was actually chasing blocks. He is a much better team defensive player now. His blocks went from 3.7 in 2016 to 2.1 last year. Anyone who think he is chasing blocks is not very smart and doesn't watch Heat games. When your blocks go down by 2 in one season then it's pretty obvious the chasing/only caring about blocks stage of his career is over with.

Too High
-Dennis Smith is too high for not having played a single game yet. I don't think he's better than Simmons or Fultz at this exact moment (could be in the future)but they are ranked below him.

-MKG. He's too high on this list for mostly a defensive specialist. He provides next to nothing on offense and hasn't really improved at all with that part of his game. I think he's most similar to Andre Roberson, although he's a better rebounder. I have in just at the tail end of the top 100.

Aaron Gordon. Don't know where to start with him. He's a tweener, without really the benefit of either position. He's been improving, but I still think he's got to be outside the top 75.

Patty Mills. Again, I think this is mostly projection, with TP declining and Mills expected to take a leap up, but this is still way too high for him. There's no way he should be above Dennis Schroeder at this moment.

Danny Green. Yikes. How the hell are you going to rank him above Avery Bradley and Devin Booker. In what world has Danny Green ever shown he was capable of being ranked this high.

Too Low
Avery Bradley. He's easily a top 50 player. I would take him over every other play in front of him, except for maybe a healthy Holiday.

Melo. I get it, but it's crazy for him to be ranked anywhere near this low. It's asinine. I don't even have to go into detail here, but there's no way he's at 64.

Devin Booker. If you're taking into projections, he's got to be easily in the top 50. He's going to put up huge numbers and is still improving. He should be in the top 50 for sure. Probably around 35-40 range I would estimate. Possibly higher.

Lots of other guys on this list were hard for me to peg. Guys like Capela, Covington, Brogdon, Gallo, Batum and Barnes I could see arguments being made either way. But I couldn't definitely say one way or another if they were too high or too low.

Marcus Smart next to melo.......so funny

Danny Green is rated better. :L

And I like Ball but he hasn't played a game yet (other than an impressive SL performance) and he's at 63.

Melo at 64.

Too High:

Patrick Beverly - Dude I love him and would take him on my team any day in a heartbeat, but it's still a bit too high for him to be in the top 50. Top 75 for sure though.

Jae Crowder - He's a really solid role player but nothing about his game says top 50. He's a jack of all trades do it all type guy but there's no way Jrue Holiday should be lower on this list than him.

Andre Iguodala - If I'm being consistent I have to knock him a bit too. I think he's probably just outside of the top 50. We all know his importance to the Warriors, but for these lists, he should be lower.

Eric Bledsoe - I'm fan of the guy, but he shouldn't be higher than a ton of guys listed behind him.

Too Low:
Lamarcus Aldridge. I get it, he's soft when it comes to crunch time and the playoffs, but he's still a great player. I'm not taking guys like Eric Bledsoe or Myles Turner over him in a on year vacuum. Probably not even Horford either for that matter.

Hassan Whiteside - He's easily a top 30 player for me.

Demar Derozan - Also too low. No way he should be below Bledsoe or Middleton right now.

Kemba, IT, Embiid, McCollum - Hard to say. I want to rank them higher, but I have to see who ESPN put ahead of them first.
