Year Of The Scab Remembers The Redskins During The 1987 Players Strike
Redskins Home

Doug getting asked, "how long have you been a black quarterback?" The scabs. If they really go in, the will know that there were rumors that Jay Schroeder accused the Posse of playing harder for Doug because he was black which caused Joe to blow a gasket.

Timmy Smith, Dexter, and Barry Wilburn being coke heads. This should be fun.

Never forget my dad took me to one of the scab games. I think it was the Cardinals. I was probably 12. Ran into Mark Rypien outside RFK and he looks me dead in the face and tells me I need to burn my ticket. True story!

I remember the scab MNF game where they beat the Boys. It was Black Monday, the day the stock market crashed. And I was bar tending for the very last time.

Lmao just imagining Mark Rypien telling an adolescent child to burn his ticket cracks me up. :dhd:

Did your Dad tell him to piss off?

I'm actually very much looking forward to watching this, as a kid I really enjoyed watching those Skins teams, even though Pittsburgh has always been my team. The Steelers sucked in the 80's so there were lots of weekends where I had no chance of seeing their game. But the Redskins were almost always on the cbs broadcast for me, great teams.

That's right up there with the Santana Moss/Mark Burnell game.

I don't even think my dad realized it. Mark said it while he was walking by. Me, a 12 year old Skins fanatic was on cloud 9. That was Mark Rypien! Even though he was a scrub who didn't even dress at the time, I was still excited he even spoke to me. Lol

Nah, homey. The Shit All Over the Triplets Induction Into the Ring of Honor Game stands damn near alone for me. The Skins exercised a lotta Dallas demons during that time in the mid 2000s.

Was that the Sean Taylor run back or the blowout when we kicked Bledsoe's ass? Hold up, triplets? We beat them in Dallas when they inducted them? Man, I can't remember that one! Pissing me off. What year?

I get it. You're saying that's in a class by itself.

1. Has to be the 82 nfc championship game, but that goes without saying. I remember that MNF game lime it was yesterday though. My.brother quit on me and my dad and went to bed. I had to run in his room, shake him and tell him we won! Classic game. Gatorade shower for Gibbs.

No doubt the 82 NFCCG game was/is classic. I think I enjoyed that win more than the SB win against the Phins that year. And hey, the 72 NFCCG is another classic as well.

The MNF game took a lotta of the sting of losing on Thanksgiving in 74, losing in the last game of the year to Dallas after Riggo seemingly locked up the W with a 66 yard TD run. As well as other heart-breaking reg season losses.

I agree about the 82 NFCC game being bigger than the SB because it was Dallas. Is it wrong to say Darryl Grants TD was the happiest moment of my life? ;)

Back on topic sorry if I missed it but when does this air?

Supposed to air sometime during next year's regular season. I was all of seven or eight, but still remember vividly "Downtown" Charlie Brown jumping on top of the pile after Grant's TD. I was hooked.

I was at the Dec 5th game with my Father in '82 when we lost to Dallas so the NFCE Championship was far more satisfying for me that year. That game marked my first RFK visit and I was just enamored with the caliber of players on each team. Cowboys led by Danny White, Tony Dorsett & Co. Our Skins led on defense by Big Dave Butz & Co. So loved those years...

The NFL is so much better when the NFC East is good. Joe Gibbs' Redskins, Parcells' Giants, Buddy, Randall, and Reggie, and the Cowboys were bad in the late 80s but around 90 and 91 you could see the reign of terror coming.

You know I was 12 then and it's a toss up for me about that it's either Grants lumbering TD or Riggo's 4th and 1 dagger SB TD

Those were both great plays and defining moments for this franchise. But the greatest play I ever saw for the Skins was Green's punt return for a TD where he broke his ribs and still ran it in against Chicago, I believe. Second to that was when Green ran down Dorsett like he was shot out of a gun and stopped a clear TD. Darrell may have been the greatest Redskin in history, in my mind.
