They may like Taco Charlton or Malik McDowell, both of whom have super high upside but huge downside.

Too much bust potential on those two to consider at 14 ... at least for my taste.

Villanova football? Kidding, I know B West went to school there. I just think of Nova as a hoops school.

It is, but the football program has been very good under Andy Talley's regime. It is actually a dynamite school in all facets of college.

I agree on the bust potential personally, just listing the guys some people will likely take in the teens and 20s at DL.

I find it hard to believe that the 4th best defensive lineman is the 14th best player in the draft.

Last year's trade for Carson Wentz ended up being Demarco Murray, Byron Maxwell, Kiko Alonso, Larry Tunsil (#8 pick, starting OT, Miami) & Worley (#77 pick, starting CB, Carolina) plus this year's #1.

Got the QB, but a 6 for 1 trade creates alot of holes.

Not a 6 for 1 trade unless you wish to be dishonest or incomplete in your analysis. You forgot to include/intentionally excluded the added cap space involved that opened up possibilities for filling any and all holes. Your analysis is lacking.

Fair enough. Its cap space already spent so we should be able to figure it out.

From 2016 thru 2018 maxwell, Murray and Alonso are costing $70m. Some of that is new contracts.

The Wentz contract is 4 years 26m. Tunsil is 4 years 12m. So that is a delta of 14m.

Daniel, Curry and Celek run 54m from 2016 through 2018. So it is fair to say they got Daniel Curry and Celek as part of those deals as well.

Actually it's fair to say we got Jeffery, McLeod and Lane Johnson with the money and we got Jalen Mills and Wendell Smallwood with the roster space. And that's in addition to getting Carson Wentz.

That is a reasonable interpretation...as long as you realize that your only getting one year of Jeffery for that. If he resigns your going way over the 56m that was freed up.

That's right, I forgot it increased our flexibility too. Another bonus. And Demarco will be 30 by the time Jeffery's contract expires next year.

If it's Derek Barnett I wouldn't mind it at all. He's a complete DE who showed heart by doing everything at the Combine despite having the flu. Tape is really good on him and he would immediately fill the role left behind by Barwin. Vinny Curry showed nothing last year to justify the contract the Eagles gave him. We could really use an upgrade at End opposite Graham.

But Barnett would not likely be the BPA. If they again draft NEED over BPA they will make yet another mistake. I'm not against going after a DE but there won't be one worthy of the #14 pick.

I have no issues with DL in round 1. I really like Barnett a lot. This defense is predicated on getting pressure on the QB with the front 4. This means that its the most important part of Schwartz scheme. Now looking at the draft, I don't think that Garrett, Barnett, Allen or Thomas make it to 14. So either they plan on trading up which I would not put past Howie. Or Mckinnley, Charlton and McDowell would be the next group.

One other thing on Kpassongon, one of my best friends used to play for Villanova back in the day so we go to a ton of Villanova games and Kpassongon takes off way too many plays. I wouldn't touch him until late in the draft as a developmental guy.

I don't want a DL in the 1st round, not even Barnett. It is a need, but no need to reach for one. There will be many to choose from later. I think we will go offense to build around Wentz - like McCaffrey, Davis, Williams, Ross, or Howard. I think we go for 2 CBs within the first 4 rounds, and then get a DT, DE, LB.

I think Barnett could easily be BPA at 14. List 14 guys better. He's 8 on the CBS Sports list. That may be high, but it's far from crazy to think of him as the best player in the middle of the first round.

If Barnett isn't there at 14, I'd trade down to the 19-22 range, pick up a 3rd and target Taco. I think it takes the long lean types more time to acclimate to college and am not too concerned about only one year of high level production. I think he's going to hit in the NFL.

It all depends on who's rankings you look at ... imo Barnett is very much worth being picked at 14 if that's the way the Eagles would like to go.
