"Best Player Available" at #14 will NOT be a CB unless Lattimore is there, which he will not. The BPA is likely to be a RB, LB, DE or OT. If they want Wentz to succeed they will be drafting a RB at #14 however I could see them trading down. I still like McCaffrey at #14 or perhaps Fournette if he falls (doubtful). DE would be an option if one of the top 3 fall.

McCaffrey will be picked closer to our second round slot than our first.

I think so too. I could be wrong, and I really like him, but he doesn't seem to be a tough runner for the NFL. That said, watch him turn out to be n all pro. LOL.

I am thinking we will wind up with one of these playmakers: Foster; Ross; or Howard. Just a feeling.

I like all 3 of them. I would be thrilled to have Foster. Imagine Hicks and Foster as our LB corp?

Yes, think they want to get the best playmaker available at any position. One more month to go!

Devastating. We would smash people. Foster has been the apple of my eye, I sure hope there's a shot he falls through the cracks to 14. He would become a Day 1 impact starter in our defense, there's nothing that he can't do.

I like this Foster idea. LB has not been on the target for me at all for Round 1. But....if he fell and was the BPA I am game. Foster and Hicks sounds brutal!!

That said....somewhat quick and unscientific glance.....5 teams ahead of us in round one project a generic LB need (not OLB or ILB specifically). Those teams have other needs too....but it could be a slim shot he makes it to 14.

We have to think of teams behind us as well jumping ahead of us. It's happened in the past that our target was nailed from a team jumping us.

LBs like Willis, Urlacher, Kuechly typically go before 14. There are a bunch of defensive coordinators out there that will want him running their defense.

Foster, Cook, Howard and Ross -- I can see 2 or 3 of them being there at 14 -- add in Williams and Davis and I could see 4 or 5 of the 6 being there. Honestly I would choose Foster out of all of those options it would be a toss up because I have been a long time Cook fan -- but we need playmakers on defense more then offense and we need a playmaker at linebacker more then a running back.

Having playmakers in your LB corps is something that gets overlooked often - you are always looking to prioritize the line and the coverage guys, for good reason because really good ones are hard to find. But so are standout LBs, and when you have a chance to get them, man what a difference they make in harmonizing your defense.

I still remember the '02 season when the Birds added Shawn Barber, he had a breakout year and his play that season took the entire unit to another level. I think Foster could have a similar impact.

I wouldn't be surprised if Christian McCaffrey is our pick. Kid has the ability to make people miss and can catch the ball. He also has a great work ethic and has none of the off the field issues like some of the other players that are available in the draft. I would liken him to B West.

Foster sounds like a risk actually. I don't think we will take him for reasons beyond character, but he could be the next Rolando McClain.

Foster's a beast, but there's talk out there that he's not the brightest bulb to put it mildly. Not impossible that he drops a little more than originally anticipated.

I think Foster is going to be the real deal. I would be more than willing to take a chance with our 14 if he is on the table. Just my gut. Honestly, I feel a ton more confident in whomever we get because we have a guy who knows talent and it won't be Howie making the pick. So there I say cheers.:suds:

Schwartz's scheme is not overly complicated - I don't think his "learning issues" would be a problem here. He was the signal caller on Alabama's defense last season, I don't think they give those responsibilities to someone who is dumb or can't learn a defense. Some just learn in different ways than others.

I've read some articles on him, he sounds like the type of personality you want on your defense. He's not a choir boy, but at the same time he doesn't strike me as being a guy that is going to be difficult to deal with.
