Great news, 4 year extension ... he and Cox have been tremendous next to each other.
My guess though is that this means some guys like Jeffery and maybe Trey Burton are not going to be signed beyond this season.
I agree here. I think he stays. We’ll see. Definitely some cap room can be finagled, depends on what their priorities are. I think Alshon will be back.
The biggest problem will be if NFL revenues don't increase at the rate that the contract structure projects.
2018 Moves to open Cap Space
Jason Peters - Could retire (would really open up cap space) or June 1st Cut would still open up 8 million in cap space.
Torrey Smith - Cut saves 5 mil
Jason Kelce - restructure would save "around" 2.5 mil
Brent Celek - Cut saves 4 mil
Total Saved: 19.5 Mil Saved (more if Peters retires)
Primary free agents: Nigel Bradham, Patrick Robinson, Alshon Jeffery, Beau Allen, Trey Burton.
Yea, I don't think we are in trouble at all
The bigger issue I see, is keeping Wentz on that rookie contract "IF" we truly go to and win a SB this year.
I love Lane, but he has been majorly overpaid over the years paying RT. The only justification was that he was on Vicks blind side (how long ago was that?) and that he would be moved to LT (clearly not going to happen). So he has been massively over paid for his position. It's time to recoup some money there as well, imho.
I can get behind all this2018 Moves to open Cap Space

Celek will certainly be gone after this year, I think. So maybe they re-sign Burton with that extra cash.
Smith is dirt cheap so I could see him back for his second year. But I think Mack Hollins is probably taking his job as the outside speed receiver in this offense.
Smith isn’t dirt cheap.
Keeping Wentz on the rookie contract?
Agreed. Hollins is dirt cheap right now. And performing better. Not sure how much savings there is against his cap number, but Smith is not worth his number.
