From what I remember, you guys have a glut of starters though, right? Waive him or option him. Or better yet, hope he comes back strong in his next start and try to move him again. Hell, he can always come be the #2 guy for the Padres.

Leyland left him in there a little to long.

Actually it is looking like Leyland's use of the bullpen last nite woke up the Angels.:2cents:

That was brutal. Leyland probably did leave him in too long. A pitcher should not be subjected to that degree of punishment.

I feel for the Padres. I love baseball more than any sport, but the playing field needs to be leveled. A hard salary cap would be a good way to go.

I like that location Tigertown.

Might need to change mine to Somewhere I don't want to be because I am somewhere near Detroit.:kidding: This area is not that bad just not where I want to be.

How long before Smiley takes his place. The few times I have seen Smiley pitch this year he has looked decent.

Good one. "Somewhere I don't want to be" would fit here, too.

I saw a graphic that Fox put up regarding Rick Porcello prior to the game,

"Pitches to contact".

In MLB, pitching to contact =feeding raw meat to a grizzly bear! The opposing team hit well over .300 against Porcello last year.

Who wants a guy "pitching to contact" when you are facing people like Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton? And this is just one team!

You want guys that "miss bats".

Although Drew Smyly is young, he "misses bats". And he would be the sole lefthander in the Tigers' rotation.

What are you waiting for Mr. Leyland?

Line for Rick Porcello today vs. Angels...

2/3 IP, 9R, 9ER, 9H, 1BB, 0K, 11.08 current ERA.

:omg:

He was mighty unlucky today. There were only a couple of balls really hit hard. The AB that changed the game was Brandon Harris's bloop hit on the 9th pitch of the AB. It brought in the 5th run of the inning and help allowed the inning to continue for Trout's GS.

True, but 9 runs is nine runs.

Part of that "pitching to contact" thing I described previously.

That's actually not true at all. Matt Harrison makes a living on pitching to contact and won 18 games last year. The difference is infield defense and Detroits is awful.

nobody here talking about the guy he beat out in spring training and who came in to mop up for him today.
Drew Smyly - 5.2 innings, 4 hits 0BB 7K
Should have went this route from the beginning.

A ground ball pitcher on the Tigers is going to have as much success as blind demolition expert.
