I hope Liberatore and Gorman drop significantly for selfish reasons. Both are committed to U of Arizona.

There’s like a 1% chance either of them step foot on campus though.

I worry about Madrigal. Is the league going crazy over Altuve? Altuve is a bit of a unicorn. Just cause you see one doesn’t mean that there are others in every draft.
I thought Madrigal was considered the safest pick of the potential top picks?

Also interesting to see if Luke Heimlich’s name gets called at any point in the draft.

I don’t know where he is from. Maybe he is playing the game a bit so he falls to a specific team???

:noidea:

Unless its a highschool player saying they are going to college come hell or high water(you cant give someone like that 6 million in the 2nd round like my pirates did Josh Bell anymore) If I'm a GM and hes number 1 on my board, I take him. Worst case scenario you get the pick +1 in next years draft.

This is pretty much my feeling.

But there are two potential stories brewing here (apparently there is no evidence of either, just pontificating by media folk)...

1) The Tigers don’t like SOMETHING on Mize’s medical reports and are going with Bart instead.

Or...

2) The Tigers don’t like Mize as a person (due to his negotiation games??) so are looking at Bart.

Both of those scenarios (and I stress, there is ZERO evidence that either are true) would mean that other teams may have the same opinion and not rate him very high because of it.

Who knows. We will find out in a couple hours...

I think the Tigers can't risk screwing this up. Mize is the clear top player. They need to figure it out, and then trade Boyd and Fulmer and just totally restock the farm.

I know that a lot of people don't even like mentioning comparables but for Madrigal someone like Knoblauch (with better D) seems like a better comp to me than Altuve or Pedroia. His upside is a little bit limited though and his value somewhat depends on how high on the defensive spectrum he stays.

a team like philly would be smart to take him because he's gonna be an easy sign.

Frankly the red sox should take him. They need to be desperate for talent and less worried about virtue signaling.

I think he should be drafted, but I wouldnt bet either way. What he “did” (I believe he pled, and has since recanted), he did as a child himself. Disgusting, sure. But he was a kid.

Some teams will not take him, regardless of the round. But I think if he has the skills, someone should take him eventually. Later picks (rd 10 and on, or so) are essentially free, so not picking him would be pure PR.

So after all that talk, the Tigers end up taking Mize anyway.

The top 3 fall pretty much exactly as everyone was expecting (Mize/Bart/Bohm).

The Sox go Madrigal instead of Singer at 4. I like that decision. I am not a huge Singer fan.

The Mets get my early white whale Jerrold Kelenic. He may be a few years away, but I think this kid can be something special.

It is very hard to project northern hs hitters.

They usually face poor competition.

It’s a big reason why trout dropped. Cause teams get burned by Chris Lubanskis of the world.

Rays badly needed that.
They will pay him a fortune, though. One of the advantages of multiple high picks. You can punt one to pay for the others.
