Only a year after I planned to do this...
Significant non-Giants drafted...
Stephen Strasburg (1-1)
Mike Leake (1-8)
AJ Pollock (1-17)
Mike Trout (1-25)!!!!
Nolan Arenado (2-10)
Jason Kipnis (2-14)
Kyle Seager (3-2)
Dallas Keuchel (7-20)
Paul Goldschmidt (8-15)
Brian Dozier (8-21)
Matt Carpenter (13-18)
Giants Picks...
1-6 Zack Wheeler MLB debut 6/18/13 NY Mets
Tommy John Surgery. Twice. That is pretty much the long and short of Zack Wheeler's baseball career. When he was traded to the Mets at the deadline in '11, it caused a huge uproar amongst the fringe, but neither team ended up winning that trade.
2-55 Tommy Joseph MLB debut 5/13/16 Philadelphia Phillies
Hunter Pence. As has happened with a LOT of the Giants picks over the last decade or so, ToJo was the centerpiece of a deadline deal that resulted in a ring (or two). Joseph was drafted as a catcher, but fell to concussions and had to move out from behind the dish. He is putting up decent numbers for the Phils, but in that park, he should be doing better. He will likely stick around for a while, but as a journeyman bench-bat, most likely.
5-147 Brandan Belt MLB debut 3/31/11
NL All-Star in 2016
The Girraffe is a solid MLB starting 1B. He offers up GG-level defense and puts up numbers that give stat-geeks wet dreams and traditional stat-followers nightmares. I am not sure there is a more controversial star player in the Giants history for actually doing nothing wrong (AJ nut-punched a dude; Barry used the needle; Sandoval tossed the grenades). Possibly the greatest 5-round pick in Giants history.
12-357 Chris Heston MLB debut 9/13/14
No-Hitter
Pitched a hell of a 3/4 season in '15, hilighted by the no-no in NY, but dude hit the wall at full force. He has been a mess since and has been passed around the league like a working girl at a Diddy party.
In summary, the Giants got a major contributor to 2 championships and 2 major pieces to major trades that ultimately led to 2 championships. Not a GREAT draft, but far from a flop.
