The Rays' Franco was a 2017 international signing and hasn't appeared in a game yet.

I was at the rule 5 draft this year, I can confirm that MLB.com doesn't know their own stuff haha
Really? You attended the draft in December? Was it boring or did you find it interesting?

Thirsty Thursday 6/14

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

AAA: Sacramento River Cats lost 6-5 (32-35)

Chris Shaw 2-4, HR (12th), 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, 1 BB
Ryder Jones 2-5, 2 RBI, 1 K
Orlando Calixte 2-4, 2 S (8th and 9th)
Steven Duggar 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB (11th)

Shaw really needed a game like this. Excellent all around. Swinging on a 3-0 count!

Casey Kelly 7.0-5-1-1-2-8
Josh Osich 1.0-1-0-0-0-1
Jose Valdez 0.1-2-4-4-2-1
Steven Okert 1.0-3-1-0-0-2

Valdez was just awful. The Cats had a 5-1 lead in the 9th until Valdez just blew it. Funny enough, the players who did the damage were quite familiar. Hunter Cole had an RBI single in the 9th, Nick Noonan had a 3-run homer to tie it, and Tommy Joseph had an RBI single to win it in the 10th.

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels lost 4-2 (33-30)

Caleb Gindl 2-4, 1 R, 1 K, 1 assist
Aramis Garcia 1-3, 2B, 1 K
Jerry Sands 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI

Shaun Anderson 6.0-6-2-2-2-5
Dan Slania 1.1-1-0-0-1-0
Carlos Diaz 0.2-1-0-0-1-1
Caleb Simpson 1.0-1-2-2-4-1

Anderson allowed the first 4 runners to reach base, but then retired 19 of 21 to finish his outing.

A+: San Jose Giants WON 6-4 (33-34)

Johneshwy Fargas 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 R
Wander Franco 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI
Kelvin Beltre 1-2, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SB (1st), 1 CS (1st)

Really good to see Beltre back in there. He's still got some interesting tools, if he can ever stay healthy and have time to put everything together.

Logan Webb 3.0-4-3-3-2-1
Carlos Sano 4.0-2-0-0-3-6
Nolan Riggs 1.0-2-1-1-0-1
Rodolfo Martinez 1.0-0-0-0-1-2

A: Augusta GreenJackets lost 6-3 (35-30)

Heliot Ramos 1-1, 2B, 3 BB, 1 RBI, 1 SB (2nd)
Jeffry Parra 1-4, HR (4th), 1 RBI, 1 R, 3 K

A boringly exciting line for Ramos showing off the extreme patience. He took walks in his first 3 PA's, then in his final one he was sick of walking and lined a double.

Jose Marte 4.0-6-5-5-3-5
Franklin Van Gurp 3.0-2-0-0-0-1
John Timmins 2.0-3-1-0-0-4

10 losses in a row now. Pretty sad, but these lower levels are more susceptible to the highs and lows. But this one is extra unfortunate because they had a great chance to clinch a playoff berth and home-field in their new park.

Rookie: DSL Giants WON 7-2 (6-5)

Luis Toribio 1-2, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 3 BB
Keyberth Mejias 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI

Juan Sanchez 7.0-2-1-1-0-8
Randy Rodriguez 2.0-0-1-1-3-3

Tremendous outing for Sanchez, who now has a 20-1 K-BB ratio in 17 innings. A 17-year old lefty at 6'2" 165, he threw mid 80s when he signed, but now is reaching the high 80s. Also throws a curve and a changeup in the 70s.

Salem kicks off tomorrow!

What a nice way for Valdez to thank the organization for bringing him back after he decided to test free agency.

Friday 6/15

The bats were tired

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

AAA: Sacramento River Cats WON 3-1 (33-35)

Ryan Hanigan 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI
Austin Slater 1-4, 2B, 1 K

Jeff Samardzija 3.0-1-0-0-0-4
Matt Gage 4.2-2-0-0-1-1
Derek Law 1.1-1-1-1-1-3

Despite not walking anyone, Shark's command wasn't that great. Threw 43 pitches but just 26 for strikes. Needs more time.

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels lost 3-0 (33-31)

Luigi Rodriguez 2-4, 2B, 1 SB (12th)
Jordan Johnson 0-0, 2 BB

Jordan Johnson 6.0-5-1-1-1-7
Jake McCasland 2.0-2-2-2-2-1

Johnson's only blemish was a solo homer from the opposing pitcher.

A+: San Jose Giants lost 6-0

Just 1 XBH and 10 singles. Pretty weak performance

Sandro Cabrera 5.0-7-4-3-1-2
Doug Still 0.2-4-2-2-1-2
Orleny Quiroz 1.1-1-0-0-0-1
Connor Overton 2.0-2-0-0-0-2

A: Augusta GreenJackets lost 6-5 (35-31)

That's 11 in a row now :(

Ryan Kirby 2-4, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Heliot Ramos 1-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 R, 3 K, 1 assist
Manuel Geraldo 2-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB (16th)

Joey Marciano 5.0-10-4-4-0-5
Ryan Koziol 2.0-2-1-1-0-1
Camilo Doval 1.0-1-0-0-0-1
John Russell 0.2-2-1-1-1-2

A-: Salem-Keizer Volcanoes WON 4-3 (1-0)

Robinson Medrano 2-3, HR (1st), 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB
Diego Rincones 3-4, 1 R, 1 RBI
Jose Layer 2-5, 2B, 1 R, 2 K, 1 SB (1st)
Mikey Edie 2-2, 2 BB, 1 SB (1st)
Ricardo Genoves 0-4, 1 RBI, 2 K, 1 error

The names to watch here and Rincones, Layer and Genoves.

Rincones made some noticeable swing adjustment to tap into the launch angle revolution. More of a contact guy, but maybe there's power to tap into.

Layer has always had and intriguing skillset but can never stay healthy. Giants just drafted his brother in the 40th round.

Genoves is an excellent defensive catcher. Some people like him a lot, putting him over Aramis Garcia tools-wise.

Stetson Woods 4.2-4-2-2-2-2
Alejandro De La Rosa 1.1-2-1-0-0-1
Sidney Duprey 2.0-1-0-0-1-2
Jesus Tona 1.0-0-0-0-0-3

Rookie: DSL Giants WON 4-1 (7-5)

Samuel Jorge 1-3, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 L
Luigi Pichardo 1-3, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R

Freddery Paulino 5.0-4-0-0-2-4
Yhonson Rojas 1.2-0-1-1-4-3
Cristian Acosta 1.1-0-0-0-2-0
Josdeiker Marcano 1.0-1-0-0-0-2

The last team left to debut, the AZL Giants, kick-off next week.

Saturday 6/16

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

AAA: Sacramento River Cats lost 4-3 (33-36)

Orlando Calixte 2-4, HR (9th), 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 K
Ryder Jones 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K

Daniel Camarena 5.0-8-4-4-1-5
Tyler Rogers 2.0-1-0-0-0-2
Ray Black 1.0-0-0-0-0-1

We want Black! We want Black!

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels WON 5-1 (34-31)

Luigi Rodriguez 2-5, HR (5th), 2 RBI, 1 R (9-29)
C.J Hinojosa 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB (1st)
Miguel Gomez 1-4, HR (4th), 1 RBI, 1 R

Luigi is 9-for-29 his last 8 games, and his averaged has plummeted to .367. Makes you appreciate Ted Williams batting .400. Here's Luigi's HR swing:

Conner Menez 6.0-3-0-0-2-4
Patrick Ruotolo 0.2-2-1-1-2-1
Dillon McNamara 1.1-0-0-0-0-2
Caleb Simpson 1.0-0-0-0-0-2

A+: San Jose Giants lost 8-0 (33-36)

Bats were shutout back-to-back nights, this time collecting only 3 hits and no walks against the rehabbing Shelby Miller and co.

Mac Marshall 3.0-1-0-0-1-4
DJ Myers 1.2-3-4-4-1-1
Jeff Burke 2.0-6-4-4-1-2
Peter Lannoo 2.1-2-0-0-1-3

Good to see Marshall back off the DL and looking real sharp. His fastball was up to 94 and his changeup was filthy, as usual.

A: Augusta GreenJackets WON.... FINALLY.... 7-6 (36-31)

Heliot Ramos 4-5, 2B, 1 R, 1 SB (3rd), 1 PO
Jacob Gonzalez 3-5, 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI
Ryan Kirby 1-4, HR (10th), 3 RBI, 1 R, 1 K
Shane Matheny 1-3, HR (3rd), 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K

The big names showing up here, great sign. Ramos' numbers are starting to come around, but again I'm not worried about that.

Caleb Baragar 3.1-5-2-2-0-6
Olbis Parra 3.1-4-4-3-1-3
Tyler Schimpf 1.1-0-0-0-1-0
Frank Rubio 1.0-0-0-0-0-1

Baragar was on a roll until he got hit by a comebacker and had to be taken out.

Parra came on in relief and did well his first 3 innings. He fell apart when they sent him out for a fourth inning.

A-: Salem-Keizer Volcanoes WON 9-8 (2-0)

Diego Rincones 3-4, 3 RBI, 1 R, 1 K
Trevor Abrams 2-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 K
Robinson Medrano 1-4, 3B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 K

Gregory Santos 4.0-3-4-2-3-4
Norwith Gudino 5.0-5-4-4-0-5

Greg Santos making his debut stateside, time to get excited. He struckout three of the first four batters and was perfect through two innings. Then control was an issue the final 2+ innings (he started the fifth but didn't record an out). Santos is just 18 years old and one of the yougnest in the league (and he's still a week older than Ramos), so this is a big test for him. But still certainly exciting.

Rookie: DSL Giants WON 13-3 (8-5)

Jean Pena 3-6, HR (4th), 2B, 3 RBI, 1 R, 2 K, 1 CS (2nd)
Enoc Watts 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 R
Richgelon Juliana 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 K, 1 SB (3rd)

Pena is another kid off to an excellent start. He's batting .324/.435/.757, tying his teammate Luis Toribio for the league lead in homers.

Lylon Lopez 4.2-4-3-3-3-3
Jesus Gomez 1.1-0-0-0-2-1
Yovanny Moronta 1.0-0-0-0-1-0
Willian Suarez 1.0-0-0-0-0-0
Jose Cruz 1.0-0-0-0-0-0

When does Luigi start getting more attention? The Giants OF is crowded in the minors, but he is really sticking out (I guess Slater, Shaw and Duggar are as well, though...).

I still fear the “surprise” 80-game suspension with him, though.

Conner Menez has now pitched twice at AAA, once at AA, and 11 times at A+. He had a no-hitter last year with Augusta before moving up to San Jose. He's a "local" kid from Hollister.

His AAA appearances were emergency starts when the staff was ravaged by the SF Giants.

His AA promotion is more of a traditional, permanent promotion.

.460 BABIP

Slade Heathcott couldn't make it out of AA last year, despite having a similar breakthrough. It would be nice to see him jump a level, though.

The Arizona League kicks off tomorrow, with the Giants BLACK and the Giants ORANGE opening on Tuesday.

Rosters are still being updated, but I expect the Giants BLACK team to be a bit more loaded than the ORANGE team. Although the ORANGE coaching staff is more experienced than the BLACK staff. We'll see!

AZL Giants Orange Team Roster | MiLB.com Roster | The Official Site of Minor League Baseball
Kinda looks like they are going to use the Orange team for the draftees. There is no roster announced yet and Trebelhorn (a former MLB manager, BTW) is listed as a “fundamentals coach”.

• It was the third time the River Cats have been shut out during the 2018 season, with all three occasions coming on the road. They have blanked the opponent twice, both at home.

• With just four hits, Sacramento tied their season-low that was previously set on June 3 when they were shut out by the El Paso Chihuahuas.
