Here is an interesting piece of information that I just found out - Thomas Neal will be one of the hitting coaches at Salem-Keizer this year.

Also, I saw this more puzzling piece of information - the org moved Dusten Knight off the active roster with Sacramento and brought up Heath Slatton from San Jose, who himself had just been on the disabled list. Odd move but there must be some kind of reason behind it.

SF Giants Minor Lines 6/11/17

"And Heath Slatton made his AAA debut. Slatton was added to the roster to give the team a fresh arm after Friday night’s marathon. Dusten Knight, who threw 3 innings in that game, came off the active roster to make room, though I’m sure he’ll be right back when he’s had time to recover a day or two."

Cederoth is an interesting story. He was a 3rd rounder by the Twins in 2014. For some unknown reason, they released him last month and the Giants pounced.

His numbers do not warrant a release. They don't even warrant a loss of prospect status.

Michael Cederoth Minor Leagues Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com

He is wild, and is far from a TOP prospect, but he is also far from a kid you should be giving up on this quick.

He is wild, and is far from a TOP prospect, but he is also far from a kid you should be giving up on this quick.

He was a big deal a couple of years ago out of the draft. He was looking at a potential 1st round pick. Injuries derailed him a bit.

This is what I had on him 12 days ago:

Giants have signed Michael Cederoth, who was released from the Twins last week.

Interesting arm. 2014 3rd rounder out of San Diego State. Huge 6'6" frame. Throws from the right side. Drafted as a reliever but converted to a started, and went back to relieving mid 2015. He has not pitched this year. 24 years old, so there's still some upside there.

Fastball reaches 100. Best offspeed pitch is a slider. Only throws that one breakingball when he's a reliever. As a starter, threw a curveball and change, but they were never anything good.

Has control issues (duh). Keeps the ball on the ground, but also has 9.8 K/9 in his career.

Remember Carter Capps and his hop delivery? Cederoth does a similar hop. Funky delivery, good stuff, bad control. He'll probably go to San Jose when he's ready.

I missed this among all the draft news, but Andrew Suarez has been called up to AAA. That makes 2 2015 draftees already in AAA. Incredible. And it probably would have been 3 if not for Duggar's injury. Wouldn't be surprised if Cyr jumps too.

About time. Any word on his he replaces in the rotation? Gomez? Slania? I'm a Daniel Slania fan but he's been downright awful in the Sacramento rotation. He needs to go back to the bullpen.

Gomez has been spot starting, so I'm guessing he goes back to the Pen. Slania was optioned to AA though, officially.

Good news though, Matt Krook was really freaking good again.

5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K. His sinker is just a great pitch, was throwing it 90-93 tonight. Generated 9 groundball outs. Many of the 8 K's were from his slider. 3 plus-plus potential pitches with his sinker, slider, and curveball.

Malique Ziegler in Salem was a triple short of a cycle today.

In Spring Training, I was hoping that he would find his way onto the Augusta roster, but the proved to be a pipe-dream. Glad to see him on Salem though.

Ziegler reminds me a lot of Juan Carlos Perez. Both are JUCO kids with all-around talent, though I think Ziegler has better tools. Very young, only 20 (turns 21 in September) 22nd round pick. The Giants love to snag up these toolsy JUCO freshman, this year they drafted Frankie Tostado and Keaton Winn in the 19th and 20th round, both fit similar profiles. Juan Perez was a 13th rounder out of a JUCO, also a freshman.

Anyway, Ziegler has an intriguing power/speed combination and plays CF. He's a great athlete out there, strong and has a good profile. The tools are evident. Hopefully now that he's playing pro ball, more information gets out there about his swing and his defensive chops. Keep and eye on this kid.
