Gentlemen,

As I read more and see more I still cannot believe the gripes oh DH and his job at WVU. Short list of good and bad, feel free to add.

Good:
36-28 Winning record 4 out of 5 seasons while rebuilding...7 and 8 wins rebuilding. (just for comparison sake-DN was 34-22-2 in first 5 of BE campaigns.)

Recruiting....he has caused a buzz around Motown that is even showing through this contract crap ASShat Lyons is putting him through. Bringing in NFL talent

Adaptability...what is our offense, except one that scores a decent amount of points and has changed its strategy year by year (how many screamed for this when RR was here?)

Push: Bowl Record 2-2

Bad:
20-23 Conf record, no more than 5 wins in a season

3 out of 5 seasons late season swoon

Not wearing Blue and Gold

I guess i just do not understand why he is continuously on the hot seat. I am not saying he is the best coach ever or even at this school, but I do not see the strategy of kicking a decently successful first time head coach to the curb. He is building the program. Is that not evident? We are in a good place right now and we are acting as if this guy is coming off multiple losing seasons.

I am open for discussion so add to any part of list you like and lets see what we come up with.

Dana can't beat KSU or OU.

Dana can't recruit a QB.

Lyons may end up being a worse AD than Pastilong. Hard to believe...

I think for me it is frustration, and a realization that the Big East wasn't quite as good as I thought. After the Orange Bowl blowout, I had some very unrealistic expectations going into the Big 12.

I don't either...If there is a Bad it would have to be the revolving door of the Asst. Coaches... But it's no different than it was when Rich was there..

I would suggest that the Big East WAS as good as the Big12 at one time from top to bottom..when VT and Miami were still in the conference...

What happened to the BE when they left was bad...but the teams that they brought like a UCONN that was still playing 1-AA ball and rushed by 3 years to make a jump...add a bad Cinncy program at the time and an upstart USF it was a terrible trade off...couple that with then BC jumping ship and Syracuse for whatever reason pouring little money into boosting the football program..even with their move to the ACC they have done nothing..

Wasting talent left and right. We have had first NFL 1st round talent pouring out of the program for 4-5 years now, where are the wins?

Well, I'll tell ya where are, they were gift wrapped to our opponents when we did things like go for it on 4th down at midfield when the defense is struggling to stop their offense (several games through the years), when DH tries to out think the room and takes the ball out of a players hands when he is killing our opponent at the end of the game ( think Smallwood vs OSU last year), leaving the same guy at positions like KR/PR when the kid CLEARLY cant do the job and has trouble even catching a routine punt because the mistakes have gotten in his head.

THAT is a lack of good sound coaching and it falls on Dana. a better decision here and there and Dana is isn't on a hot seat and is prob already extended and some of our assistants are prob still here as well. Cant blame Lyons for not extending Dana right now, you cant do that when the coach has a losing conference record.

On a positive note the late season flops might come to an end this year if we run the ball more when the weather turns bad. that might be some of the thinking bringing Wickline in, he has coached some very good run offenses, maybe keeping on the ground in Morgantown in late October and November gets us a few more wins:noidea:, I hope so.

Where are the wins? Where were the wins when Don Nehlen was HC in a formidable BE? The guy is in the HOF... right?

What about the rival schools in the Big 12... how many NFL draft picks are they placing?

Where are the wins?

Geno, Stedman, and Tavon... they won the BE and Orange Bowl when they had some defense on the other side of the ball. Yeah... a first round DE... Nield... some NFL guys in the secondary. WVU got them some wins.

When the defense was shredded by poor recruiting... WVU didn't get so many wins in their new conference.

2013, WVU had the perfect storm. WVU fans have seen this multiple times in the past. Inexperience on offense... inexperience of defense. Nehlen had a couple of 4-7 years. WVU fans said they were building for the future. With Dana, he loses because he can't coach. The '13 teams was one of the youngest teams in the country.

Kevin White and Mario Alford were drafted from a team that had a QB with a fragile body. Had this QB stayed healthy... who knows how many wins WVU gets in 2014?

Last year, WVU played with inexperience at all of the skill positions of offense. Had its leader on defense go out with an injury. WVU can't win though... because its coach can't coach.

Except... he has won as many games over ranked opponents as Rich did. He's played more games against top 25 teams than Rich did. He won more games in one year against top 10 ranked teams than Stewart did over 3.

But, Dana can't coach...

Nield wasn't on the line in '11... my bad. Tandy, Irvin and Goode were all drafted in '12.

Nehlen had a conference record of 16-10-1, had BE championship in the big boy BigEast and played for a shot at a NC in the same amount of seasons.

Dana is 15-21 in the new Big12 which some consider watered down now without Nebraska and A&M.

Nehlen had his flaws but he was a sound coach and knew how to win games when his teams could contend.

WVU has lead all Big12 teams the last 5 drafts in 1st round players. I would have to look up total numbers and would imagine OU would be the leader overall and I don't think anyone is expecting Dana to own OU (though a win or 2 wouldn't hurt anything) but I don't think at least 1 win over some pretty tame KState teams is asking too much.

We can go on and on but the bottom line is this, he needs to win more games and win them this year, the time for excuses is over.

Nehlan only 8 times in 20 years did DN win 8 or more games 12 in 20 he won 7 or more....I appreciate what he did for our school and we can argue SOS at this time or that time until we are blue in the face. If Don should teach us all something is that you should give your coach time. Hell look at Nehlans bowl record, would he have even made it that long if in todays game? Hell he only one 5 or more games 2 in the BE.

Who considers the Big 12 watered down? That is a new one.

Nehlen had his flaws but he was a sound coach and knew how to win games when his teams could contend.

I am not sure how you measure this, I am not anti DN, but I think his history here has had a lot of embellishment over the years.

I guess I do not understand this mentality.....4 of 5 seasons winning....I will go back, but a lot of you guys picked him to win 3 or 4 games last year. He wins 8 and now we must win a title for him to keep his job?!?!

No not a title imo. I think the number is going to be 9 or greater. He gets that and imo he gets extended....unless he is pissed over the lack of an extension now, gets an offer elsewhere and takes it:noidea:.

The schedule sets up pretty good, we have a ton of experience returning on offense (his wheelhouse) at the very least the offense should be pretty explosive.

Come on... Doc could have done better than Don getting WVU ready for bowl games. Don lost a whole bunch of games to weak competition when he fielded equally as talented squads. It happens in this sport.

Don played for a NC when he met two teams with a winning record in the regular season. Half of the teams WVU faced went 3-8.

There has never been a time for excuses. There will always be factors which impact how many games are won or loss.

WVU is playing teams with better talent now.

What was WVU's record against PSU? What was WVU's record against Miami? What was WVU's record against VT after they became a perennial top 25 team? What was WVU's record against Pitt when it was a top 20 team?

What were Nehlen's excuses against those teams?

Too funny...

Look at the all-conference teams. Provide for me a sketch of what you find.

Bet you'll be surprised at what you learn...

What are the three most important positions in football to determine success?

QB?

OL?

DL?

In the past 3 seasons, how many WVU players have been named to the all-conference team from these positions? What teams place the most players on the all-conference teams?

Where do the teams who place the most players on the all-conference teams finish in the conference?
