You really have to question the timing of the release for the Crackboys. Why not wait until after the draft to do this? Now it telegraphs to everyone in the league that they need a starting receiver. This is exactly what competent NFL teams don't do.

More importantly Romo and Dez account for $0 on the 2019 cap when key extensions are due.

My point is you do this earlier if you have a looming cap hit, and you sign more guys before going into the draft so you are not forced to take a guy at a certain position. Yes, they signed Allen Hurns, but are they going to start Allen Hurns and Terrance Williams outside next season? What depth do they have behind those guys?

That's the issue here. Jerrah has some nice pieces, especially on the OL, RB and secondary, but he can't seem to build solid team depth, so when his team suffers the customary injuries (and the usual, predictable Glass Joe Sean Lee injury), the Cowboys tank because they have no one to step into the holes.
