Boston Globe writer Howe reports Develin signing a 2 year deal to stay in NE.
No details yet but a great signing regardless. Just another brilliant move by BB grabbing him off of the Cinncinati PS. Great blocker and team guy. One thing this does is it gives BB the option of selecting one of the awesome hybrid TEs as Develin can protect TB.

Develin is an excellent pass catcher. Twice in the post season against the Steelers and the Falcons he was left alone and both times Brady hit him with a short pass and both went for more than 10 yards. He's a road grader at the goal line. Great signing......

The Patriots got a head-start on free agency, according to media reports this Monday, by inking fullback James Develin to a new contract. Develin’s deal is said to be for two years and just under $3 million.

Since joining the Patriots in 2012, the former college defensive end has carved out a nice role for himself as a dependable blocker in New England’s rushing attack and a sometimes target of QB Tom Brady in the passing game. Recently, his efforts in the backfield helped open up holes for 1,000-yard rusher LeGarrette Blount en route to the Patriots’ fifth Super Bowl championship. Brady once called Develin “the best fullback in the NFL.”

The 28-year-old Develin was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on Thursday before he and the Patriots came to an apparent agreement today.

His ability to sneak out of the backfield when called upon and make those catches are just icing on the cake. Who knows next year we see him getting a sack on D or throwing a TD:yes:

Good to get Develin signed. Smart fullback. Great blocker.
Now what the hell are we doing with Glen Gronkowski? Practice squad?
