Castellanos is a late scratch from today's lineup.

I'm glad Jimenez got the AS nod over Castellanos.

That fucker is just horrible in the field.

Well, the early sheen is off Matthew Boyd. Back to being the dud we thought he was.... 4-7 (4-8 after tonight) with a 4.76 ERA.

And it looks like Francisco Liriano really is the over-the-hill bum we thought he was when he was acquired. 3-5 with a 4.74 ERA and a 5.0/9 walk rate.

Better shop Mike Fiers hard before the other shoe drops with him.

Verlander chose not to pitch in the All-Star Game so he could pitch today against the Tigers. Bad move.

Ball really carried today.

I'll be honest, realized part way thru the game, I wasn't rooting for the visiting team. Lol

Very weird start. Through the first 5 innings, the Tigers had only put 6 balls in play against Verlander (12 of the first 15 outs were strikeouts), but they were winning 4-2.

Something like four times ever a pitcher has struck out 12 and given up 4 homers or more. Schilling, JV and I forget who the other two were.

TIGERS MINOR LEAGUE REPORT

AAA – Toledo

Christin Stewart, OF/DH (age 24) – Hitting .260 with a .340 OBP and 16 HR through 76 games this season (285 at-bats). Strikeout rate has dropped some (19.3% this season, compared to 24.9% last year). His glove and Victor Martinez are the only things keeping him from being in the majors.

Dawel Lugo, IF (age 23) – Playing mostly 2B, with a few games at 3B. Looking very good defensively: only 3 errors in 267 chances (.989 fielding pct.). Offense is nothing special. Hitting .271 with only 7 walks, so his OBP is a crummy .283. Only 24 of his 93 hits have gone for extra bases.

Matt Hall, RP/SP (age 24) – Recently promoted from AA Erie where he was tearing it up: 5-2 with a 1.58 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 27 games (4 starts). Strikeout rate of 12.0/9 (76 K in 57 IP). Has made one start in Toledo since moving up, giving up 2 runs in 5.1 IP.

Paul Voelker, RP (age 25) – 2.68 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 29 appearances (47 IP). K rate is nothing special this year (7.7/9), after being 10.0/9 last season at three minor league levels combined.

Kyle Funkhouser, SP (age 24) – Just promoted to AAA after going 4-5 with a 3.74 ERA in Erie. Has 89 strikeouts in 89 IP. Walk rate has gone up to 3.9/9 after being 2.7/9 last season.

Zac Houston, RP (age 24) – A flamethrower who is only in his third professional season after playing three seasons in college for Mississippi State. He has a 14.0 K/9 rate this season between AA and AAA, and a 2.34 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP. After posting a walk rate of 4.7/9 in 2016 and 2017, he’s brought that down to 3.9/9 this season.

AA – Erie

Beau Burrows, SP (age 21) – MLB prospect rank: #77. Has made 17 starts, posting a 7-6 record, 3.63 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 81 K in 91.2 innings (8.0/9). Expected to be promoted to AAA soon.

Daz Cameron, OF (age 21) – MLB prospect rank: #75 / BBA #74. Hitting .276 between A+ and AA this season, including .311 in 106 AB since being promoted to Erie. Only 8 HR in 322 AB so far, but he’s expected to develop as a power hitter. He’s shown the ability to draw walks (.354 OBP) and has 15 SB this season. Downside is his 99 strikeouts in 362 PA (27.3%).

Alex Faedo, SP (age 22) – MLB prospect rank: #59 / BBA #50. Posted a 3.10 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in A+ before being promoted. Somewhat low strikeout rate (7.5/9), but also a low walk rate (1.9/9). He’s struggled a bit at AA Erie, with a 5.65 ERA in 3 outings.

A+ - Lakeland

Matt Manning, SP (age 20) – MLB prospect rank: #59 / BBA #78. 5-3 with a 3.15 ERA at two levels of A-ball this season. Has a 12.3/9 strikeout rate, but walk rate is a bit high at 4.5/9, leading to a 1.29 WHIP.

Franklin Perez, SP (age 20) – MLB prospect rank #39 / BBA #35. He’s only made 5 appearances (13.2 IP) so far in 2018 after suffering a spring training injury, posting a 3.95 ERA and 1.10 WHIP.

Isaac Paredes, SS (age 19) – Hitting .257 with a .333 OBP. Showing good pop, with 10 HR and 45 RBI through 81 games (288 at-bats) this season.
