At what point does rebuilding overrule money. I understand the amount but if you have someone who doesn't want to play are you inhibiting you're rebuilding program?

Let's say Detroit trades Miggy at the trade deadline. They pay his salary for the rest of this season and agree to pay a third of Miggy's remaining $154mil he is owed. That would still mean some team would have to agree to pay him over $100mil for the next 5 years - when he is 37-40 years old. What American League teams could afford or would want to do that?

So, unless Cabrera wants to rewrite his contract and find a less painful way for another team to afford his services, I guess he is stuck in Detroit making excuses about bad knees, bad backs, or whatever ailments he wants to come up with. Personally, I'd keep him and let him rot on the bench if that is his choice. Whenever he has an "injury"...60 day DL, and call up a young player to DH. Let his Hall of Fame stats stagnate until he is 39 and worthless, and then pay him off and release him.

He'll never have much value as a closer....but he might hold on to enough value that some team may see him as a middle-relief option. Hopefully Greene will just be a warm enough body that his trade could add someone to Detroit's minor league system that MIGHT help them in 2019 or 2020.

As for Farmer...his release will be a major step in the team's rebuilding project. (I saw a guy - 68 years old in Senior Slo-Pitch League - who could replace Farmer if allowed to remove the 45 degree arch in his pitch. Even now, I think his tosses have more movement than Farmer's!)

Yeah, the Tigers were two bad bullpen innings away from a 3-of-4 road series. If I was more invested in this team winning this season, it would bother me a lot more. It really does them no good to finish close to .500 and get a middling draft pick. To be honest, I really don't expect the starting pitching to hold up. And we already know the bullpen is bad.

2017 top pick Alex Faedo is 1-3 with a 3.50 ERA and 0.962 WHIP in Lakeland. That's the stuff that's worth looking at.

I'd listen to offers...but I would wait until teams get a little more desperate. But if some team is willing to drop a top 50 prospect for him right now - jump on it.

I'm pretty sure, if given the proper situations, the Tiger bullpen will be able to lose 3 out of every 4 games.

I reiterate my plan of rotating the pitchers in the Tiger and Mud Hen bullpens. Every two weeks send three down and bring up three. Doesn't matter who. Give them all a chance. The "Player Procurement" guys can add/or subtract guys at the Toledo level.
