Scouts in the stands, and Verlander's average fastball is 96.5 today. Trying to impress?

Well....he couldn't do much more to try and facilitate a trade. Maybe pitch into the 7th or 8th inning....but a good outing.

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have agreed to a deal that would send left-handed reliever Justin Wilson and catcher Alex Avila to the Chicago Cubs for two prospects. The Detroit Free Press first reported the players involved in the deal; FanRag Spo...
Tigers trade Justin Wilson, Alex Avila to Cubs for 2 prospects

Clearly punting the rest of the season, given how much worse the Tiger bullpen will be without Wilson. Alex Avila was turning back into the old Alex -- hitting .158 in July (9-for-57) with no home runs and 4 RBI. Jeimer Candelario is pretty much MLB ready and is a 3B -- makes me think the Tigers will either attempt to trade Castellanos or try to move him to the outfield next season, and possibly 1B in 2019. We'll see.

Now, someone please tell Al Avila we have enough infield prospects already. Some other positions would be nice. Where are the young pitchers we need?

We need a catcher and some OF prospects, maybe a 1st baseman too. Tigers top prospects were already RHPers but we need some lefties now.

That's not a terrible trade although I was hoping for better than Paredes or getting him and Caratini.

Exactly what I felt....Candelario and Caratini would have been a better deal.

However...Baseball America is not impressed with Candelario, ranking him 9th on the Cubs prospect list and Paredes above him by several spots.

Depends which source you believe, I guess. Baseball America has Candelario ranked as the Cubs #9 prospect and Parades the #5. MLB Pipeline has Candelario ranked #1 and Parades ranked #8. They probably use different criteria.

Candelario is clearly more MLB-ready, but Paredes may well be the better player long-term.

Trial by fire. The Tigers have no closer now. Might as well try Jimenez.
