Yes, manufacturing has both built, and killed, the Detroit area. But in the last 5 or 6 years or so there's been a pretty steady stream of announcements about building plants or moving operations to somewhere in the area. Example, Toyota announcing a $1 billion autonomous vehicle research center in Ann Arbor. Or $126 million power train operation to the area from California. Or GM moving some truck production to Flint from Mexico...in March of last year: GM to move some truck production to Flint from Mexico Like I said, that stuff has been happening with regularity recently. These moves by Ford or Fiat were likely being discussed well before Trump won anything.
