Yes, manufacturing has both built, and killed, the Detroit area. But in the last 5 or 6 years or so there's been a pretty steady stream of announcements about building plants or moving operations to somewhere in the area.

Example, Toyota announcing a $1 billion autonomous vehicle research center in Ann Arbor. Or $126 million power train operation to the area from California.

Or GM moving some truck production to Flint from Mexico...in March of last year:
GM to move some truck production to Flint from Mexico

Like I said, that stuff has been happening with regularity recently. These moves by Ford or Fiat were likely being discussed well before Trump won anything.

Trump also gave a push to GM today at the beginning of his press conference and hinted they may be on their way to making a decision to back Detroit.

    Like I said:
First Ford, Now Fiat: Trump Had Nothing To Do With New U.S. Jobs | The Huffington Post

"A news release issued by Fiat explained the move was part of a plan first conceived in 2015. When asked if the company chief executive, Sergio Marchionne, had any direct conversations with Trump, a Fiat spokeswoman simply said: “No”. When asked if Mr Trump and his politics had any effect on the company decisions, she also said they had not. So here’s the reality: there’s no reason to suspect credit was due to Trump. Still, we’re seeing Trump supporters acting obsequiously, desperately grabbing at medals to award him for things he had no part in. This is another reminder of the necessity of independent media. Fact-checking alone will not solve the problem."

Trump is taking credit for something that was planned in 2015...

    1. LOL at quoting HuffPo
    2. So, it's just a huge coincidence that they abandoned a $1.6 billion plant project in Mexico that was well underway when Trump took office, and when they made this decision their owner made sure to reach out to Trump personally to tell him of the news. Gotcha.

I don't get why the source matters if the facts are quoted from elsewhere? If Fox news quotes the Constitution, it doesn't make the quote any less legit. The opinions presented are certainly skewed. But this isn't an opinion.

Actions speak a hell of a lot louder than words. What do you expect them to say? "Yeah we were definitely gonna leave with Obama or Hillary in office, but now that we don't have to worry about losing as much on the bottom line with Trump in office, we're gonna stay!"

Good to see Detroit on the comeback, great to see some good news coming from the city.

The increased capacity isn't coming to Detroit, ftr. Jobs coming to the area are good of course, especially of the unskilled labor type.
