It's no coincidence that they're all announcing it around the same time but I suspect the underlying motivation to do so was hardly influenced by Trump.

On a serious note, tax cut impacts, which are guaranteed with our elected officials painted red, are definitely going to have effects on business decisions. Some of this is PR...but if they follow through with 15% tax rates, you're damn right we'll see expansion in domestic jobs. The question is one of proportion, not of existence. IE: Where's the tax savings gonna go? Into Uncle Pennybags' pocketbook, or back into the hands of the lower and middle class populace? The answer is obviously both...but proportionally how much. Time will tell. I know where I think it will go when the guy in charge does everything he can to put his name in big letters on everything, touting his legacy and how much money he has...*shrugs*

Since Trump was elected, I have said several times that I will give him a chance to show that he's not the person he portrayed himself to be during the campaign. He soon will be President of the US--he deserves the respect due the office. As for what's happening in the auto industry currently, Trump is taking credit for Ford and Chrysler expanding operations in Michigan and Ohio to the tune of 2000 jobs (in 2019-2020). But, an article in today's Washington Post reported the following statement:

“These investments and these products being built in Michigan and Ohio have always been planned — we’ve just been waiting for them to make the announcement,” said Autotrader’s Krebs. “They’re just making sure they tout it earlier and louder so the president-elect Trump hears them.”

I continue to be skeptical of president-elect Trump. He's going to have to do a lot more than take credit for events that were already on the horizon for me to trust him.

yeah , Ford always planned to ditch their commitment to building a 1.6 BILLION DOLLAR plant in Mexico. Companies do that all the time , just as the Washington Post

Ford Motor Co. Does U-turn on Bailouts - FactCheck.org

They technically didn't get bailed out but they received a loan that was part of the bailout bill. One could argue Ford would have benefited handsomely from their competitors questioning their going concern considering Ford wasn't hurting too badly at the time.

These things happen all the time up here, they don't usually make national news. The Big 3 are always announcing some factory opening here or there. Which is why I think this was always part of the plan with or without Trump.

The Ford one can't be true. How the hell do they get as far along on a billion+ dollar plan down there as they did only to pull the plug coincidentally when Trump took office? That makes no sense at all.

When was the last time a manufacturing company from the Midwest arbitrarily decided to scrap a $1.6 billion plant that was already well underway just to relocate the jobs to the US instead?

Where in the fuck do you live? For 30+ years, manufacturing has been moving out of the Detroit area like rats leaving a sinking ship. Now comes Trump who campaigns on adding tariffs and bringing jobs back to the USA. Ford even references Trump's call to action for tariffs as a reason for expanding in SE Michigan and not building in Mexico.

Your right ... Trump had nothing to do with it

Seeing how you are unfamiliar with the area, I can take you to dozens of places in Metro Detroit where manufacturing once existed. I will explain how liberal policies have decimated Metro Detroit and it's residents.
