I don't know if I know a single women vocalist you named. I actually can't think of a single woman in a rock band- except maybe The White Stripes
Well I think a lot of them were only relevant mainly in the 80's and then they had kids or something and didn't stay in rock and roll for 30 or 40 or 50 years like a lot of the male vocalists like Mick Jagger, Roger Daltry, David Bowie, Clapton etc.
But if you can't think of any current ones maybe there aren't many any more. I just wasn't sure because I don't listen to much current music. I know some of the names of current women vocalists but I couldn't pick out their music and I just assume they are mostly Pop artists.

Another thing about the 80's is MTV and Friday Night Videos exposed people who listened to classic rock to more Pop music. I was more into Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed....etc. I would never have known anything about a Pop artist like Whitney Houston but because of MTV I actually know who she is and some of her songs because I had to watch her videos while waiting for them to show the cool ZZ Top video with the hot chicks and what not.

Joss Stone was the only name that popped in my mind.

Just a quick observation, and correct me if I'm wrong because I often am---Does it seem like there were more women that did rock and roll in the 80's (as opposed to "pop" )? When I was thinking of songs from the 80's it seems like I was remembering a lot of women vocalists. Pat Benatar, Patti Smyth, Joan Jett, Heart, The Go-Gos.

That chick from the Eurithmics...

But yes.

Some more bands that will always be associated with the 80's (not necessarily favorites of mine)

Duran Duran (I never thought of this before, but were they making fun of the guy that shot RFK with that name?(
The Bangles
Rick Springfield
Simple Minds
Tears For Fears
Cyndi Lauper (saw her in a commercial for some psoriasis drug the other day-she looks good for 64 years old, you know...if you can look past the voice and the hair.......)
