Jeff Conine, known as "Mr. Marlin" for his years as a player and staff member in South Florida, is leaving the organization after he said he was offered a lesser role and lower pay from the new ownership group led by Derek Jeter.

"To say I'm disappointed that I won't have a role in this organization, yeah, I'm disappointed," Conine told the Miami Herald on Thursday.

Red Sox fans couldn't wait to find a new reason to take a shot at Jeter.

We (I) never minded Jeet, it's A-Rod we hate with the white hot passion of a thousand suns.

Jeter envy. No reason to hate Arod. He even tried to join your team but got cock blocked by the MLBPA

Yeah, probably...I know that doesn't make people laugh, but it's what you kind of expect from a new group that's taking over.

Jerry Jones fired Tom Landry.

Jeeter envy for sure. As for A-Rod, early in his career yes. Later though, well, Jason Varitek dissagrees. LOL

He's in charge. It's his decision.

But he only owns like what 3% of the team
But part of his job is to the decision maker.

Larry Baer is the decision maker for the Giants, but I am not sure he actually owns any portion. The “biggest” owner is Charles Johnson who could walk around the park and even the most dedicated fans would not recognize him.

if he was making $100K, he probably wasn't doing anything of significance.

also, I find it funny that Jeff Conine was the "face of the franchise." That'd be like me calling Trot Nixon the face of the Red Sox (and I like Trot). I'd say it speaks measures to the constant turnover of the Marlins roster over the years. I mean, Castillo and Conine are still #1 and #2 in games played as a Marlin and it's not like they spent their entire careers there.
