Yeah McCarron FA news was big for teams needing a FA QB... One more guy out there that won't cost a pick.

Report today saying the Broncos are content on Devontae Booker as their #1 RB (means nothing) but CJ Anderson to no surprise seems to be the most obvious cut/trade right now on the team.

I saw that. If Booker can stay healthy for once then maybe he finally shows that potential. I would still take a RB in this draft as it is a pretty deep group.

Well with McCarron a FA that 2nd round pick is safe unless for some stupid reason the Bengals decide to tag him. Right now still sounds like Cousins is plan A then they will go from there depending on how that goes. I know they like Keenum as well since he is a favorite of Kubiak's.
Elway should have traded for Keenum back in 2016
Unless rams wanted a first another blunder by Elway

surprised Rams didn't want Miller thrown in as well. :)

Unfortunately there are some teams out there that just overvalue what they have and think they can fleece a team. Broncos were desperate obviously for QB help but not even close to the price the Rams were wanting. Good for them to not have made that trade. And now could just get him for a contract if they wanted.

Personally my order for FA QB's would go Cousins, Bridgewater (he will be cheaper than Keenum), and then Keenum.

I don't want anything to do with McCarron as I think he is very overrated especially by Bronco fans after seeing him for one half of a game look good against the Broncos. Once they adjusted though he was down right terrible. Kind of like Siemian this year where after the first few games teams adjusted and boom he turned into the worst starting QB in the NFL.

I think McCarron is overrated too. I like him as a stop gap if we go QB at #5 but he is gonna cost too much for that most likely, (not going to get a stop gap type contract) although the QB market is pretty good.

I am not looking to go for "cheap" on my QB if I am a team, but also need to be smart about the way we go.

To me the only QB I'm not going another QB at pick #5 is that of Cousins. Keenum has the one good year but I'm not so sure he can completely repeat what he did. He threw up a lot of prayer balls deep and his receivers made some great plays. That won't always be there. Bridgewater I just don't know how much I can trust him to last an entire season. I like the guy but man that knee injury was brutal. Heck even just the mental side of things of can he truly bounce back that side of things is still to be seen.

I agree. There are some decent options but I almost think if we don't go big with Cousins we need to look at a stop gap and draft QB at #5.

After much back and forth, I've settled on my plan for the Broncos:

Take a QB with the number 5 pick and build a team around him. Design the offense and target the right personnel to fit his strengths. The number 5 pick is the starter from Day 1. Get the right guy and I'm okay with the Broncos being mediocre for a year or two as they stack the roster. Deep playoff runs year after year beyond that. Easy, right?!

I agree Carl but, also shows how dumb they were. I think Talib would have vaulted them to SB maybe. I agree on your FA list. I bother Nick all the time but, I really enjoy podcasts alot thanks so much. One thing I wanted discussed was if we sign Cousins to 28 mil what cap space would we need for Solder and a FA TE type scenerio wouldn't we need 50-55 mil range?

After two years of wasting the defense they can now get him for a contract. As a season ticket holder who pays good money , Anything less then a first , id rather have Keenum the last two years instead of gotsis or D Walker. No Lynch, no gotsis and a QB better than trevor

In the NFL the Salary Cap is what I call a soft hard cap. What I mean by that is it can be easily manipulated. If the Broncos absolutely wanted to they could make it work to get those guys signed probably for $38-40 million in cap hits for this upcoming season. The issue becomes that means the team is pushing bigger cap hits to future years.

Now the Broncos could be thinking they have some bigger contracts coming off the books over the next couple of years. Talib, DT, Sanders, Anderson, Wolfe, Watson, Stewart, and Marshall all guys they could be cutting, trading, or just seeing their contracts run out by then. So that is quite a bit of cap space to open up.

As for Solder I honestly doubt he leaves the Patriots. From what I have heard it is Patriots or retire. His kid has cancer and in Boston they have one of the premier children's cancer hospitals in the world. His family really loves it there and I just can't see them moving.

One could say that is all hindsight though. Gotsis is turning into a decent starter on the DL so that one I would argue but the other two yeah now that we've seen them play have obviously shown so far they are busts of a pick. AT the time though of giving up a 2nd round pick for a guy that for most of his career had been a backup or when he did start hadn't shown anything of value fans would have been calling for the head of Elway.

I decided I am certainly for keeping DThomas. The new QB will start off which plenty of completions. I can't say the same thing for Sanders - and I can't put my finger on exactly why I think Sanders could go - since I love the guy.

A big thing for offensive success will be the TE position. They make for some tough matchup for the defense. This is why I want us to get a guy like Dallas Goedert. He is big enough to be an effective blocker but yet is a threat in the passing game. Go 2 TE sets with Butt and Goedert with DT and Sanders outside and you can go with a spread look or power run formation, especially if Booker or Henderson are the running backs.

This is probably too simple but makes some sense with the way my mind works.

Elway's latest comments sounds like he expects DT and Sanders to both be back (might mean he is going after that vet QB and wants the weapons for him to be more attractive)

and Talib looking like he won't be back more and more each day.

Houston Texans[edit]
On October 30, 2018, the Broncos traded Thomas and a seventh round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft to the Houston Texans for a fourth and seventh round pick in the 2019 draft.[98] In his debut with Houston, he beat the Broncos, his former team, 19-17. He made three catches for 61 yards in the win. On December 23, Thomas was carted off the field in the second half in a 32-30 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with an apparent Achilles injury.[99] It was revealed that he suffered a torn Achilles and was placed on injured reserve on December 24, 2018.[100]
