He picked a great year to go All Pro. He was fantastic this year but Dallas has to pay Hitchens and Zack Martin too. Is he going to get it. If I were Cleveland I'd contemplate pairing him with Myles Garrett. Bookend stud DE's

Absolutely will get it. He will absolutely be tagged as well. If you wanted to pry away a top of the line passrusher away, David Irving, a RFA, is who you do it with. Cleveland has excess picks and a 2nd ain't shit to them.

Were Irving a man with a clean sheet, he would be a hotter name this offseason. Dallas may get away playing chicken here.

Dallas will likely draft a LB in the first round...DLaw will get paid before Hitchens.

Why is that? Not saying you’re wrong... just curious. Lawrence is a DE that is young, had a ton of sacks and was All Pro 2nd team.

Dallas is going to

A) Tag Lawrence

B) Nobody is signing a FT offer sheet for Lawrence

C) David Irving is a RFA
2c) His play is worth a big contract
3c) Well in excess of a 2nd round tender
4c) Dallas can't pay everyone at once

However, David Irving has a history so handing him a massive contract and forking over a pick may not be appetizing, but this was a devil's advocate argument more than anything, anyways.

Irving has been suspended, no? Tends to catch eyes.

What does this have to do with Irving?
The thread?

I am posting a more logical topic than OP is knowing Lawrence gets tagged.

Irving getting signed as a RFA with his history isn't happening until proven otherwise. But if it did happen, it would make sense that the Browns would go after him.

Or in other words, offseason chatter/theorycrafting.

One year wonder so far, that had one great year in his contract year. I hate players that perform great their contract years.

Lawrence plays in Dallas on the tag or a long term deal. He won't sniff the market this year.

I also think Irving likes Dallas and will remain with the Cowboys

Lawrence was fantastic this year (the only cowboy for whom that word could be used) but so far as some people have mentioned above you can't assume that his level of defensive production will continue past this season. Even the cowboys are smart enough to tag him first and then start figuring it out.

True, but he started showing this os he back in 15, but his back started to hamper him.
Time will, is he a player or a contract chaser?

Bye Lawrence. Great player but not worth $22.5M per. $20M is more than fair

Well I am in no means comparing him to Von Miller but Von got his big contract when he was 27, DLaw is about to be 27. His previous two years he had 25 sacks total, that's what Dlawrence has done. Plus contracts are inflating so really if players are getting overpaid, that's just how it works. $20-22 seems fair. If the Cowboys offered $20/year and he is really crying bc he wants 22.5...that is kinda bs but he is one of the best pass rushers and still young so

Yeah 22.5M. Seems like too much. Between what he is seeking and what Dak is seeking, that would be around 25% of the cap for only around 4% of the roster. That leaves Zeke and Copper out of the the picture and they already eat about 12% of the cap without deals. Toss Smith and Martin in there and you got 53% of the cap invested in 6 players or about 11% of your roster. Seems like if these guys want to be on teams that can win, they'd be a little less greedy. Really, sounds like we should have locked him up last year when he wanted $17M/yr, thats less than the tag price this year.

If there wasn't a cap, I'm sure Jones would have no issue paying all these guys.
