Yeah, we don't remember. My father lied about his age (as did many) to join the service. My generation (including myself) lied about are age to get into the bar. No wonder we are jumping off the fiscal cliff.

I dont understand why isnt this honored bigger. cnn, fox, cbs, abc have so very little on this. its kind of a disgrace. this should be treated just as big as 9/11 for how those are honored.

I respect and honor these soldiers/sailors.

One of the only battles I am in favor of. We have no culture here in America, that is why we don't remember and forget.

Because as time passes, the moments we "never forget" are actually slowly forgotten. They become irrelevant (Japan is one of our closest allies) and their survivors have almost all died of natural causes now. History is like looking out the read window of a car towards the horizon. The farther away down the road we go, the more it slips from our minds. It's not disgraceful, it's just the natural progression of history. We have no shortage of moments, holidays, ribbons, standings at ballgames, etc. honoring soldiers. I think it's great we honor these heroes so often, and I honestly wish we'd honor teachers, cops, moms, etc. a little more often.

This does remind me of old timey news reel footage though...

You're right, now that I think about it, I really can't remember what my Mom looked like on that day.

Or what forest we were in, or how many steaks were wrapped around her neck?

Ah, memories.

Oh, she delivered meat to lumberjacks during the cutting season. Turns out she was also having meat delivered to her since she ran off to France with the forman that day.

I still cry whenever I eat steak.

There's a rather interesting show about WWII on the History Channel right now, if anyone's interested. Called WW2 from Space. Pretty informative. Runs for another couple of hours...apparently without commercial interruption.
