Dabo Swinney just accepted an 8 yr deal at Clemson worth over 3 million per year.

I bet that ET is just ecstatic about this.

I was just about to post the details on the Clemson board. Yea, I'm slightly puzzled. Yes, we have had 3 good seasons, but I can't help to think: We have only won the ACC once, we have lost to our rivals 5 years running, the ACC has been a terrible football conference for the last 10 years so winning 7 or 8 games in conference doesn't impress me. At least it doesn't impress me enough to give the man an 8 year deal worth over 3 mil a year. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?? Oh well, I hope he can maintain these winning ways after The Chad takes a HC job and Dabo has to run the offense on his own or make the right hire, again. I probably would have been fine with a 4 or 5 year deal, but flippin 8 years is a bit much. Maybe he'll mature over this time frame and I can find a way to respect him as a HC.

I agree. 8 years seems like a lot considering the output. Especially on defense. Offense is ok, but if Morris goes watch out.

I did the same thing. It scares me because I can see this team turning to warm shit when The Chad leaves. I don't get it. 8 flippin years. I guess I need to get my mind right and accept this and just go "All In" and drink the kool-aid, wear the orange colored glasses, become a typical homer. I can't believe I'm stuck with a head coach, that I find hard to respect, for the next 8 years.

Bad part is Jimbo Fisher won back to back ACC Titles, Orange Bowl, undefeated in bowl games, 2 losses between three rivals(UF, Miami, and Clemson), AND a NC and he only got a 5 yr deal. This is what truly boggles the mind on this decision by Clemson of giving an 8 yr deal.

I have nothing to say on the topic, we will all just wait and see I guess.

I'm over at tigernet reading their post. You can't even post anything objective without being accused of being a coot (that's a gamecock fan for you outsiders) and getting scolded for not being All In. After all Dabo has has done wonderful things @ Clemson. I've been going over there in hopes of recruiting a few folks but I can't find any I like.

The Chad is a well paid OC. I know all the Texas fans wanted him for OC, but his buyout was more than Charlie Strong's buyout, and that just made it too caddywompus. Not that he would have come, because I doubt he would have, since he's due a HC gig here pretty soon.

There is something to be said for stability of the HC. And long-term contracts don't mean much if you don't win. All head coaches at the big-time football schools are in the same boat.

I'm SO GLAD we passed on him at HC. There was a booster for Texas that wanted him to be the next Texas HC.

Clemson just lost two of the best players in CFB in Watkins and Boyd. Those guys will be hard to replace. Seems to me Clemson has been excellent for a number of years, so if they did not give Dabo the deal and he goes elsewhere, the hunt for a new coach begins and the school still has to pay out some big money. The old "bird in the Hand" expression comes to mind. Another thought is the huge amount of money now in CFB has made if easier for schools to pay big money for their coaches and I don't see that changing. 6 years from now, I suspect Dabo will be getting more money than just 3 million dollars.

I know I'm a broken record, but if you got a quarterback, life is good. Having Boyd, life was good. Dabo just needs to find a replacement, and he'll be fine. If not, then welcome to our world the last 4 years.

Venables hasn't even been there long enough to fuck up your defense yet.
in about 2-3 more years, his effect will kick in full force, and you guys will be loosing an extra game or two every year you shouldn't

good luck
