Here's a more conservative (and perhaps more realistic) prediction for a Big 12 breakdown:

    ACC (15)
Atlantic (7): Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, NC State, Syracuse, Wake Forest
Coastal (8): Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech

    Big Ten (15)
East (8): Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers
West (7): Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Wisconsin

    Pac-16
Mountain: Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech, Utah
Pacific: California, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington State

    SEC (15)
Eastern (7): Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, West Virginia
Western (8): Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Texas A&M

Not a big fan of the huge, unwieldy, and mostly unbalanced divisions. Makes for some terrible scheduling.

For good measure, here's the American, which becomes bloated while scavenging the remains of the Big 12:

    American (16)
East: Cincinnati, Connecticut, East Carolina, Iowa State, Kansas State, South Florida, Temple, UCF
West: Baylor, Houston, Memphis, Navy, SMU, TCU, Tulane, Tulsa

The ACC and SEC avoid playing each other as it is with 14 members and an 8 game conference schedule.

I don't know much about K-State, but who's to say Snyder's replacement will be a terrible coach?

Just basing it on track record. They were historically bad before Snyder then went into the tank when he retired the first time from a poor hire. There is already some controversy at KState now about him trying to name his son as the HCIW and the AD wanting to hire his guy (as he should). Just....no thanks, take in another school from another area for recruiting purposes and not be quite as regional.

Poor Tulsa, Tulane, SMU, Navy, and K-State.... those five don't even make the 'Homeless 16 Conference'...
    :sadbron:

....even if those five remaining schools coax Army, and UMass, and New Mexico State to join-up, they'll still only be at eight members.... well....

....there's always Liberty and Eastern Kentucky who desire to become FBS conference members.... add those two, and then that would make ten members for the 'Not Even Good Enough For The Homeless 16 Conference".

    Sad..... very sad...

Liberty will actually be joining the FBS as an independent in 2018.

Exactly.... as an independent they will be available for the hypothetical reject conference mentioned.

A couple years ago, Liberty, Eastern Kentucky, and Coastal Carolina were the three finalists who wanted membership in the Sun Belt. The Sun Belt chose Coastal Carolina. Liberty and Eastern Kentucky still desire membership in an FBS conference.

Why would those conferences stay at 15? Just grab UCONN, Iowa State & Kstate and call it a day.

At least in the case of Iowa State, the conference might consider the add not worth it. If they anticipate the school will be more of a burden (e.g., financially) than an asset, then they just might decide to stay put at 15.

:dingdingding:...and it probably only needs to be about 24 total. That's all that really have much national appeal outside us CFB crazies.

Texas and OU. They go to the west, UA/AU to the east.
Kansas, no. SEC has all the bkt teams it needs, in Kentucky.
    TCU, no
WVU, fuck no. Before Mizzu was asked, the SEC took a vote and it was a 12-0 no vote for WVU.

It's either UT/OU or OU/OSU. The rest of them can go fuck a duck,

Although the SEC might like the following that Texas has, I think that school is too much of a demanding prima-donna to gain serious consideration for membership in the SEC. The Big-12 school with the most in common with the SEC is Oklahoma - the culture is similar & they excel in the same two sports that most define the SEC these days: football & softball.

West Virginia would be pretty much a cultural fit, but their academics make them less attractive. TCU is probably the only other B-12 team that the SEC might show an interest in. I don't think they would take two teams from Oklahoma.

I don't think we have to worry about that, Pac 12 seems to be the logical option. combining the California/Texas markets and recruiting is too smart not to do.
