If I was a Bronco fan, I won't be happy, but looking at from the league view of things I'd want to discourage contracts that made it difficult to judge fair comp, best way to do it is to value tricky or difficult contracts at max value. That will discourage others from doing the same in the future.
I understand the league wanting to discourage it. And yeah if this is the way they operate moving forward that is fine. I just think the fact that it doesn't look like they told teams this would be the case this year is a bit of a B.S. move by the league. I'm sure the Broncos would have designed Okung's contract differently if they realized it would eventually cost them a 3rd round pick.
